Carson City Fair returns for 2018 with some changes

The annual Carson City Fair — a combination of carnival, agriculture, local exhibits and entertainment — is returning to the Nevada state capital July 25-29, 2018 at the Fuji Park Fairgrounds.

We’re in for another gray day, but that won’t affect the fun to be had. Bike to Work Week always ends in a big bash. Head down to McFadden Plaza, even if you didn’t take the challenge personally. You’ll find live music, raffles, bike games, and too much fun. Western Nevada Musical Theater Company returns for another weekend of Singin’ in the Rain at the Bob Boldrick Theater. Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours are waiting to entertain you at the Brewery Arts Center. There may be some balcony seating still available, but tickets are very limited.

BooBoo's Buddies, a brand new pet hotel, daycare, boutique and spa in northeast Carson City, held its ribbon cutting Thursday at 1749 Old Hot Springs Road.

C-SPAN returning to Carson City this Wednesday and Thursday

National cable and satellite television network C-SPAN is returning to the Nevada state capital this Wednesday and Thursday, April 11-12 to engage the community through interactive demonstrations of its public service resources, a C-SPAN press release said.

This weekend may feel like it goes by a little quicker than usual, and it’s not your imagination. In the wee hours of Sunday morning we spring forward into Daylight Savings Time. The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada is teaming up with NDOT and the Head Injury Association of N. NV for a Brain Safety Day and free bicycle helmet giveaway. Join up with our Parks and Recreation Department for a guided walk at Riverview Park. The Experimental Aircraft Association is holding a Young Eagles event today, so if your kid loves airplanes, you won’t want to miss it.

The 27th annual Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry returns to historic Virginia City, Nev. on Saturday, March 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each year, more than 7,000 people fill the streets to have some tasty testes prepared by over a dozen cooks all competing to claim the winning title and bragging rights.

The kids of Youth Theater Carson City present a junior adaptation of the musical favorite this weekend and next. It’s finally here, the last weekend of 2017. It’s fairly quiet around town, until Sunday night, that is. Today, Muscle Powered is leading a five-mile half-day hike along Prison Hill. Take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather, and join them. The Carson Nugget is hosting three nights of comedy this weekend: catch Myles Weber on the stage tonight. Head’s up. Galaxy Theater usually plays a movie from the past on Sundays and Wednesdays. This week, we get treated to the Christmas Classic, Die Hard. You won’t want to miss that.

Dayton, Nevada – This week’s Dayton Food Pantry news includes recognition for three groups that recently contributed to the Pantry: Volunteers in Policing (V.I.P.s), Girl Scout Service Unit 625, and the Misfits Theater Group. Dayton Food Pantry manager Alie Trier said, “This Thanksgiving we were so grateful for the hundreds of turkeys and hams, side items, and checks donated by the community. Now we even have enough to provide more than 500 more familes with spiral hams for Christmas. Thank you awesome community members!”

The rumors of Santa Claus coming to town are true. The jolly old man is making several appearances today, and is feeling photogenic. Take a ride with him at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, join him on the ‘Elf Crawl’ from the Capitol to the Carson Mall, or tell him your wish list at Debug Computers. Adults have a hard choice to make: the monthly downtown wine walk and the Holiday with a Hero Pub Crawl both take place today, and I’m not sure I’d recommend attempting both.

Carson City and Storey County 4-H Youth Celebrate Awards at Governor's Mansion

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension 4-H Clubs held their 2016-2017 Awards Night at the Governor’s Mansion Nevada Room on Nov. 15. At least 100 4-H youth from Carson City and Storey County received recognition for their accomplishments during the year.
