As we all closely monitor the rapidly changing response to coronavirus (COVID-19) in our community, Carson City's commitment to delivering high-quality public works service to homes and businesses remains constant. Below are important messages and information available to you regarding utility billing issues.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation continues to fulfill all essential public highway services, including roadway maintenance and construction. Following Gov. Steve Sisolak’s direction and public health guidelines, the Department has transitioned to online business services and protocols as a proactive measure to help reduce spread of COVID-19 in our communities.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles is aware of the many issues the closure of our offices is having on the motoring public. We are currently evaluating ways to provide relief. There are both legal and technical issues to resolve. We will announce specific measures as soon as possible.

When there is heightened concern around an illness, Carson Tahoe closely monitors the situation and implements enhanced infection prevention strategies, working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local health authorities, and other local healthcare providers.

University of Nevada, Reno has implemented plans, having closed for the next 30 days due to the coronavirus pandemic and the Nevada governor's procedures for all schools, state colleges and non-essential employees and school operations.

By noon Wednesday, all "non-essential" businesses in Nevada were required to shut down by state decree in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. However, some local business owners were confused as to the procedure for the shut down, which businesses in fact are required to close and in what ways can they remain open.

On Wednesday, the Nevada Health Response Center (NHRC) released the COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Initiative listing of essential services and sectors and non-essential services and sectors. The release includes social distancing measure.

In response to the Declaration of Emergency by the Lyon County Board of Commissioners, the Human Services department has reduced the staffing in its' administrative offices. Limited services are being offered over the phone, individuals are encouraged to contact their local Human Services office with any questions or concerns.

Gov. Steve Sisolak’s request Tuesday night for all non-essential businesses in the state, including casinos, to close their doors for 30 days in order to avoid further spread of the novel coronavirus has been met with some confusion over what is and isn’t an “essential” business.

I have spent the last week helping businesses communicate and innovate during the COVID-19 pandemic. With a little lull in my meetings, I turn to you in Carson City to provide insights. I hope they inspire you to think differently and utilize this uncertain time to create a little certainty, however you can.

YERINGTON — Lyon County has announced the following changes in operations in response to COVID-19 and the Governor’s recent announcement as to the State of Nevada’s Response to COVID-19.

At midnight Tuesday night, a statewide closure of all non-essential businesses was enacted, and one of the businesses hit hard were the casinos throughout the state of Nevada.

Due to safety recommendations related to COVID-19, Nevada JobConnect Career Centers as well as Workforce Connections’ One-Stop Career Center, are closed to the public until further notice as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City is closed to the public until further notice as the region works to minimize the spread of coronavirus. School visits and public events are also canceled.

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has closed its field offices statewide and many of the centralized services in Carson City, including the call center, effective 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 17. The department has taken the action to help mitigate the possible spread of COVID-19 among state employees, their families, and the general public.

Gov. Steve Sisolak on Tuesday ordered a sweeping shutdown of nonessential businesses, including casinos and retail stores, for 30 days, a move that would have been unthinkable weeks ago before the novel coronavirus wreaked its havoc around the world.

UPDATE TUESDAY: In response to health concerns from COVID-19 and recommendations from the governor's office, the Carson City Library is closed until April 6 or until the State Medical Officer evaluates the public health risk and determines it is safe to resume normal operations. All homebound service and outreach activities are suspended.

Winter weather continued overnight in the Sierra and into the valley floors, causing headaches for the likes of not only Tuesday morning commuters trying to maneuver the roads, but big rig freight haulers who are stuck on Interstate 80 near the Nevada state line due to heavy snow.

Casino Fandango always places the health and safety of guests and team members as the highest priority. During this time, extra precautions will be taken because of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Already strict standards of cleanliness and sanitizing have been heightened, and the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), local and U.S. Government officials will be followed as closely as possible.

Carson City officials are continuously monitoring the level of risk of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) to the community. In close coordination with Carson City Health and Human Services, the City Manager’s Office along with City departments in an abundance of caution are coordinating the closure of some offices to take additional measures to slow the spread of respiratory viruses. Carson City Yoga will be closed as of March 15th. All classes are canceled through the end of March. The Open House that had been scheduled for March 21st has also been postponed. The Lyon County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a Declaration of Emergency through Resolution 20-05 and a meeting Monday afternoon, according to County Manager Jeff Page.

There was one person who poke against the resolution. Lyon County staff will now begin implementing procedures to address the declaration.

Western Nevada College will move to remote, online instruction effective March 23, and will continue in this manner for the remainder of the spring semester. Our faculty and staff are working diligently to finalize plans to migrate classes to remote instruction, primarily Canvas.

Due to the continuing health and safety concerns surrounding coronavirus (COVID-19), the Carson City Senior Center is closing the Senior Center to the public.

CARSON CITY — Due to ongoing public health concerns over the spread of COVID-19, the Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services offices are closed to the public Monday, March 16, 2020. Offices will re-open Tuesday, March 17.

UPDATE: Carson City meal sites are expected to begin Tuesday, March 17, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Empire Elementary School, Mark Twain Elementary School, Seeliger Elementary School, and Carson High School.

In light of Governor Sisolak’s announcement to close all K-12 schools in Nevada, the Nevada Department of Agriculture is implementing the first of a two-tier strategy to mitigate National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program interruptions.

Due to the unprecedented events surrounding COVID-19, Governor Sisolak has closed all schools in Nevada as well as cancelled all extracurricular events. This means that the annual Father-Daughter Ball at Carson High School, scheduled for April 3, has been cancelled.

Due to increasing concern around COVID-19, Nevada Gov. Sisolak, after consulting with local and state agencies and officials, has decided all school in Nevada will be closed starting Monday, March 16, through Friday, April 3. With this direction, All Carson City School District schools will be closed for three weeks starting Monday, March 16.
