Summer is holding on for dear life, and sending a miniature heat wave our way for this long weekend. For those of you not in Black Rock City, the Carson City region offers plenty of recreation and entertainment. Downtown will be hopping with the Farmers Market, monthly Wine Walk, and this season’s last outdoor concert at the Brewery Arts Center – and that’s just Saturday! Carson City Fire Chief: Voltaire cleanup underway, no lost structures and no injuries

Tuesday's Voltaire Fire in south Carson City off of Curry Street is contained at 135 acres and currently in mop-up phase with crews remaining to watch for hot spots, said Carson City Fire Department Chief Sean Slamon.

Keep Tahoe Blue Labor Day Beach Cleanup

What to do, what to do? That’s the question that starts most every weekend. If you’ve got kids, test their mettle at the annual Capitol City Triathlon. Open to kids of all ages, they will bike, run, and swim their way to the finish line. The third annual Sassabration event kicks off with a multi-colored, costume bike parade from the Brewery Arts Center to the celebration at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Multiple bands, vendors, non-profit booths, free swimming at the Carson Hot Springs, not to mention the yummy food and drink available make this a not-to-be-missed festival.

Nearly 3 tons of trash collected at Lake Tahoe beaches after July 4 holiday

As the sun came up over Lake Tahoe the day after the July 4 celebrations, scores of volunteers were headed to the beaches to help clean up the trash left behind on local beaches.

Happy Wednesday, Carson City. The long holiday weekend is over, but you can keep the good times rolling. The Fox Brewpub is hosting their monthly Whiskey Wednesday tonight, complete with raffle prizes and of course, whiskey. The Classic Cinema Club pushed back their monthly movie viewing by a day, so head over to the BAC Performance Hall to watch ‘Three Came Home.’ Keep Tahoe Blue will be starting the day at numerous beaches; their annual clean-up is necessary after the fireworks.

Planes, trains, and automobiles take over Carson City this weekend. Steampunk ‘N’ Trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum features train rides, fun costumes, food trucks and more. You’ll find two car shows in town – the Party at the Pavilion as part of the Nevada State Fair and the Carson City Downtown Revival Car Show at the Carson Nugget. The Carson Airport Fly-In and Open House has plenty of aeronautic fun in store. You’ll have to keep reading for all of the fun options in Carson City and the surrounding valleys.

Keep Tahoe Red, White and Blue Beach Cleanups

After Tahoe's July Fourth festivities, our beaches are thrashed with trash, which can hurt wildlife and lake clarity. Each year, hundreds of Tahoe residents and visitors turn out for our largest cleanup of the year to remove litter from our beaches. Help Keep Tahoe Blue by joining a beach cleanup site!

Cleanup sites include:

• Regan Beach

Carson City, Douglas and Nye counties awarded $1.2 million in federal EPA grants

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Wednesday that the Northern Nevada Development Authority and the Nye County Coalition will receive a total of $1.2 million in federal grant funds for brownfield site revitalization efforts.

Railroad Museum in Carson City heads full steam into Memorial Day weekend, summer

The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City is back to full operations just in time for the Memorial Day Weekend and the busy summer season. Construction crews this week completed removal of more than 110,000 square feet of debris and repairs to the tracks on the museum grounds that were damaged by flooding in January.

After the flood: Railroad Museum in Carson City to reopen Saturday

The Nevada State Railroad Museum, Carson City will reopen Saturday, March 4, with free weekend admission for all.
The museum has been closed since Jan. 8 due to significant damage from floodwaters that inundated the property, damaging the tracks, fire roads and a number of buildings.

Dense smoke from prescribed fire should ease some after drifting into Carson City overnight

Trash Mob to Clean Up Remnants of Waterfall Fire

The Waterfall Fire of 2004 was one of the worst fires in recent history to devastate the Eastern Sierra foothills near Carson City. After it was all said and done, over 8,700 acres and 18 homes were destroyed. As a part of the recovery process plastic tree protectors were put in place to help the seedlings that were planted.

Volunteers meet for Saturday's annual Carson River cleanup; plus Hike for Health at River Fork Ranch
