Parks Foundation Donates Funds for the Centennial Park Tennis Facility

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation, at its June Board of Directors meeting, allocated $15,000 of the funds entrusted to it by the old Carson City Tennis Club to initiate the design, planning, and engineering of new tennis courts at Centennial Park.

Traffic delays on US50 East compounded by 2 crashes, Halloween festivities at Centennial Park

UPDATE 7:13PM: Traffic should be cleared in all directions after 7:30 p.m. said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. With two vehicle crashes earlier and the Boo-Nanza Halloween celebration at Centennial Park that ended at 7 p.m., traffic along Highway 50 East has been significantly impacted with delays.

Celebrating Halloween in Carson City is really unlike any other place because the holiday sometimes lands on the same day as many Nevada Day festivities are underway. To have a more organized and safe Halloween for children, Carson City will again host its "BOOnanza" celebration this Thursday, and the Children's Museum will host a safe trick or treating event Friday.

Fall train rides, 'Light after Dark' fitness event, live music and more highlight Carson City area weekend events

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area. Fall-themed train rides from the Virginia Truckee Railroad Company and the Nevada State Railroad Museum will be available on Saturday and Sunday. A virtual “Light After Dark” fitness event will be held on Saturday to support the Carson City-based Advocated to End Domestic Violence program. Starting May 26th, and continuing every Tuesday evening, 5:30 p.m. to dusk, the Clear Creek Bowmen will resume hosting their Tuesday Night Archery Shoots at the Tim Meigs Carson City Archery Range (Formerly the Centennial Park Archery Range).

Carson City Parks and Recreation warns public to not overcrowd trailheads

In light of current directives from the Governor related to health concerns, many facilities are closed, leaving few options for exercise and recreation. The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department reports that an unprecedented number of people are utilizing Carson City’s more than 8,000 acres of parks, trails and open space. Trailhead parking in some locations is over capacity.

The Waterfall trailhead on Kings Canyon Road is experiencing especially large numbers of visitors, resulting in traffic congestion and parking related issues.

Carson City outlines department closures, services available in response to coronavirus threat

Carson City officials are continuously monitoring the level of risk of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) to the community. In close coordination with Carson City Health and Human Services, the City Manager’s Office along with City departments in an abundance of caution are coordinating the closure of some offices to take additional measures to slow the spread of respiratory viruses. Carson City emergency crews respond to crashes at Highway 50 and Centennial, US 50 and Empire Ranch

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol were called late Monday afternoon to a motor vehicle crash in the area of Highway 50 and Centennial Park Drive.

UPDATE 12:56PM: According to the Nevada Highway Patrol via Twitter, the crash involved a wrong way driver.

UPDATE 12:30PM: According to a Carson City Fire Department battalion chief, three people were transported to the hospital. One person was flown by Care Flight and two others were taken by ground ambulance to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno. The eastbound lane of Highway 50 was reopened at 12:30 p.m. The westbound lane remains closed. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Obituary: Robert Paul Pier

United States Marine Corps Captain (retired), Robert Paul Pier (Bob) left this life for eternity on Jan. 8, 2020 to be reunited with his Creator and his waiting wife, Ruth Jane Pier. Bob was born on August 10, 1931 in South Bend, Indiana as the youngest of nine children, Bob was 88 years old.
