The Carson City Clerk-Recorder announces they are seeking appointments to committees to prepare arguments supporting or opposing two upcoming 2024 Carson City ballot questions concerning increasing the special purposes sales tax and imposing a supplemental government service tax to increase funding for local roadway maintenance and construction in Carson City.

Total voter count is 25,061. Carson City Clerk Sue Merriwether reports 91.79 percent of the registered voters turned out to vote.

An error in a Reno newspaper about a recent federal court ruling has led to some confusion about ward elections in Carson City, according to District Attorney Jason Woodbury.

A panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled that a certain “hybrid” method of electing members to a governing body is unconstitutional.

Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Gonzales announced today that he filed to run for Sheriff of Carson City with the Carson City Elections Department.

Gonzales is running for Sheriff with the goal of increasing integrity, transparency, and accountability in the Sheriff’s Office, as well as restructuring the department to put more deputies in positions to better serve Carson City. “I understand today’s issues and have the vision to meet tomorrow’s challenges.”

With around 63 percent of Carson City's 26,000 voters taking care of business prior to today's General Election by showing up to the courthouse for early voting or casting their ballots by mail, voter turnout Tuesday has been a steady and even flow, election officials have observed.

There was an expected rush early when the polls opened, with 1,300 voters making it to the Carson City Community Center before 10 a.m., said Carson City Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover. Otherwise turnout has been as expected: No long waits. No crowding.
