Sims declares 2020 candidacy for Carson City mayor
Long time political activist and former Carson City Republican Vice Chairman Aaron Sims officially kicked off his campaign for mayor of Carson City Saturday morning at the firefighters memorial at Mills Park.
In his speech, Sims stressed the need to establish a goal of ending poverty in Carson, bringing more transparency to city hall and serving as a fulltime mayor.
He greeted a crowd of supporters with a barbecue and a meet and greet where he answered some questions from citizens who expressed an eagerness for change in local government.
The Carson City mayor's seat will be an open position in this next election due to sitting mayor Bob Crowell being termed out. Sims is the first to officially declare he will be a candidate and if elected, he would be both the youngest and first openly gay mayor of Carson City.
