Free Film Series at the Brewery Arts Center Begins Friday

The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City and ACCtv will launch a new Friday Films Series on June 17. The family friendly fun begins with a five week series of short films for children. Admission is free. All showings are at 6:30pm in the Performance Hall.

The Film Series is an affordable way for families to spend time together this summer. Refreshment are available for purchase in the lobby prior to the show. For the complete film lineup visit www.breweryarts.org.

Monthly swing dance party

High Sierra Swing Dance Club presents its monthly dance party June 25 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City. There will be a lesson at 7 p.m., with the social dance at 8-10:30 p.m. Partners are not required. Lesson $7 for HSSDC and any swing dance club members or $10 for nonmembers; dance $7 for members of swing clubs and $10 for nonmembers. Join the club that night, and the dance is free. The Brewery Art Center to Highlight Nevada’s Paiute History

Explore part of Nevada’s Native American History through the language and the stories of the Walker River Paiute Tribe with Andy Allen on Saturday, May 21st at 2p.m. in Carson City. The performance is part of the Brewery Art Center's “Cultures of Nevada” Matinee Series.

Allen’s captivating stories about his tribe will both entertain and educate. Audience members will also learn some basic Paiute words and phrases. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to experience Nevada’s rich history together.

FREE swing dance lesson

High Sierra Swing Dance Club is offering a free, two-hour lesson in basic West Coast swing at its monthly dance party May 21 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City. The free lesson is 5-7 p.m., followed by an intermediate-level West Coast swing lesson offered at 7 p.m. for $7. Concerts on tap in Carson City

The Carson City Symphony will play Saturday April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Carson Community Center with a program of "Dances and Romances" featuring guest harpist Marina Roznitovsky. Sounds like a concert not to be missed.

Roznitovsky will join the symphony for Saint-Saens' Morceau de Concert for Harp and Orchestra. Conducting will be David Bugli. Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 for seniors, students and Symphony Association members. Those 16 and under are admitted free.

The Brewery Arts Center Stage Kids presents the captivating musical 'Bye Bye Birdie' which tells the story of a rock and roll singer about to be inducted into the army. The performance features great music, imagination and lots of fun. It will feature more than 40 talented local children. Brewery Arts Center Presents 'Meshuggah-Nuns'

Hilarious comedy is lined up in February as the Brewery Arts Center Presents 'Meshuggah-Nuns.'

In the fifth “Nunsense” adventure the Sisters are on an all expense paid trip on the "Faiths of All Nations" cruise. After a time at sea, the ship runs into a terrible storm that lasts nearly a week. Many people become seasick including the entertainers.

It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Mile High Jazz Band presents the eighth annual Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Friday, January 21, 2011, 8:00 p.m., at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. Celebration of Arts on Sunday to launch Nevada governor inauguration of Brian Sandoval

The inauguration of Nevada's 29th governor, Brian Sandoval, will begin on Sunday with a celebration of arts in Carson City and then continue on Monday with the official ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on the steps of the state capitol.

Beginning on Sunday, Jan. 2, from 1 to 5 p.m., cultural organizations in downtown Carson City will open their doors to offer free music and dance performances, demonstrations by traditional artists, visual arts and history exhibitions, children’s activities and shopping opportunities.
