Among Carson City featured events include a presentation by Nevada’s Homeland Security Advisor at the Nevada State Library, a National Day of Service outdoor cleanup at Silver Saddle Ranch and a 9/11 Memorial Service at Mills Park. Hello and happy Monday, Carson City. Today is Sept. 10, 2018. This morning kicks off the first of four days of volunteer training at the Nevada State Museum, and tonight Carson High School hosts its community-focused Back-to-School Night, “Open House, Open Hearts."

If your Sunday plans are still up in the air, consider a short trip to Reno very early in the morning to catch the final day of the 2018 Great Reno Balloon Race. Glow Show and Dawn Patrol start around 4:30 a.m. and Mass Ascension takes place by 6:30 a.m.

UPDATE: 11:25AM: Care Flight has transported a victim with injuries to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. The extent of injuries and condition of the victim are unknown at this time.

Emergency crews from Carson City, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and REMSA in Reno are responding to a report of a motor vehicle versus bicycle accident that occurred on Eastlake Blvd just east of Interstate 580.

Care Flight has been ordered and is en route to the scene.

Cause of the accident is not yet known. Condition of the driver and bicyclist are unknown at that this time.

Today's column features good news and bad news. The bad news is Labor Day is now behind us and we must re-adjust to a regular two-day weekend again. But therein lies the good news. Another weekend has arrived, and you'll find plenty of ways to enjoy your time off.

Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to this fun, hands-on restoration day. By pitching in, you are improving the watershed habitats that surround Lake Tahoe. Healthy forests act as natural pollution filters to Keep Tahoe Blue.

What to wear and bring: sturdy boots, clothes that are comfortable and can get dirty and sunglasses. Bring a reusable water bottle and leather work gloves if you have them.

Bodie has long been a ghost town tourist destination, and though it might reside in California, we in Northern Nevada still claim its lore as our own, since we are familiar with all things that are spooky, cursed, and rich in Old West history. Bodie encompasses all of these traits, but what has also put it on the map, is the fabled Bodie Curse.

The last weekend of August holds tight to summertime tradition. Get something fresh from the field at Farmers Markets in Carson City, Genoa, and Dayton. According to the calendar, summer is coming to a close but South Lake Tahoe is refusing to acknowledge it. Tahoe South will host a magnitude of events extending the season from Labor Day into October with entertainment, culinary festivals, music, outdoor recreation, competitions and a lakefront laser show.

A 38 year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Saturday morning at 12:58 a.m. in the area of South Carson and Eighth streets on felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

We are running out of summer weekends. I know that’s hard to believe right now, but hoodies and everything pumpkin is just beyond the horizon. Grab summer with both hands and go enjoy this beautiful city. The Brewery Arts Center brings Dennis Johnson and the Mississippi Ramblers to the stage for tonight’s free concert. Check out the Railroad Museum for your fill of music and antique motor cars.
