Carson City Symphony Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard “Ricky” Hutton as Director of Carson Chamber Singers. His connection with the Carson Chamber Singers goes back to the summer of 2019, when he directed the Singers in the June Pops Party concert in Carson City and the July 4th concert in Genoa.

Heading into the first Monday of February, we're hoping your post Super Bowl day is filled with a few extra dollars in your pocket, tasty leftovers for lunch and some good-hearted conversational quarterbacking. Activities around the capital city include a luncheon highlighting the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar, a free Partnership Carson City Yoga class at the Carson City Community Center, art activities and showings, swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

Consort Canzona, an early music performing group of the Carson City Symphony Association, will begin rehearsals on Monday, Feb. 3, for their May concerts. The program features Madrigals from the Renaissance through the Baroque, and includes separate and combined instrumental and vocal selections. Rehearsals are Mondays at 7 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive.

Heading into Thursday, August 15, 2019 we can expect hot weather to continue with high temperatures near 100. Among events for the day, there will be a wreath remembrance ceremony for fallen Carson City law enforcement officers at the sheriff's office, a Muscle Powered morning hike, art showings, and a meeting of the Status of Women in Nevada group at the Carson Nugget. As part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival, there will be an outdoor "Woodstock Remembered" concert at Comma Coffee and a music presentation, "All About that Bass" by Scot Marshall and Friends at the Nevada State Museum.

What a week it was Carson City, and it isn't even over yet. Heading into Friday, May 3, 2019, we're looking at continued sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s. There's a host of activities Friday and, looking ahead, a bevy of fun Saturday including a Mother's Day craft fair at the Carson City Community Center, a Star Wars themed bicycle safety day, a wine, cheese and dessert ride aboard the V&T, an early opening of the downtown farmer's market, the May Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, a memorial walk, presentations, comedy, live music and more. Consort Canzona, a select group of instrumentalists and singers specializing in early music, will present two Hassler & Company concerts this spring on Friday, May 3, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, May 4, at 4 p.m., at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 (just south of Best Buy) in Carson City. Director is Gary Schwartz. Admission is free, donations welcome.

Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus hosts its annual production of Handel's Messiah with performances this weekend in Gardnerville and South Lake Tahoe.

The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1976, presents Gerry O’Connor and Richard Mandel on Saturday, Oct. 14, 7 p.m. in the Maizie Harris Jesse Black Box Theater. This Saturday will begin the 4th season of the very popular Celtic Series and for the first time, you can purchase a season ticket to ensure that you don’t miss a show.

Go for broke this Wednesday. Or you could go for Baroque this evening with the Tahoe Symphony at Corpus Christi Church just south of town. Another good bet is karaoke at Crossroads Lounge: it’s in the East Winnie Lane shopping center with San Marcos Grill and Bleu Café. The West Side Cruiser Ride for Bike Month is a sure thing. Meet at the Brewery Art Center, costumes are highly encouraged, and then meander around our beautiful downtown with some other fun people. Living the Good Life wants you to enjoy a music jam; bring your instrument if you want to sit in.

TOCCATA kicks off its 11th Summer MusicFest with “Go4Baroque - Summer Solstice Series” on Sunday, June 12, 4:00 pm, at St Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Incline Village (341 Village Blvd).

The program opens with Bach’s Concerto in C Minor BWV100, featuring Josue Casillas on flute and Nita Tune, oboe, and continues with Bach’s Cantata BWV 180, Schmücke Dich, with soloists Anna Helwing, Becky Earl and Anne Davidson, sopranos; Brad Perry, tenor; and Emzy Burroughs, baritone.

TOCCATA – Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus makes a stop in Carson City for its 11th annual WinterFest with the “Brrroque Masters” concert series Jan. 3, 6, 8 and 10. The concert series is dedicated to the memory of Mark Lord, TOCCATA’s principal trumpet player 2007-2014.

Strings in the Schools, Carson City Symphony's after-school program, presents its sixth annual "This is Not a Christmas Concert" on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center.

It’s National Eat Your Veggies Day, and if you find yourself in Douglas County, either one of today’s farmers markets will make that an easy and delicious feat. Carson City hosts its own Farmers Market on Third and Curry Streets every Saturday morning until September. Head to the Carson City Library this evening for a presentation on Myanmar by local resident, Raven Grayshield. TOCCATA–Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus kicks off its 10th Summer MusicFest with “Going For Baroque - Summer Solstice Series” June 17 thru 23. The program opens with Vivaldi’s Concerto for Violin and Cello, RV 547, with Natalie Haines Backman and Nick Haines as soloists, and continues with flutist Josue Casillas performing Vivaldi’s Concerto for Flute #428, “Goldfinch.”

TOCCATA – Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus kicks off its 10th annual WinterFest with the “Brrroque Masters” concert series dedicated to the memory of Mark Lord, TOCCATA’s principal trumpet player for the past 9 years.

The program includes Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Trumpets featuring baroque trumpters Dwayne Hollenbach and Wm Van Meter and the Vivaldi Gloria featuring the Tahoe Symphony Chorus and vocal soloists.

Strings in the Schools, Carson City Symphony's after-school program, presents its fifth annual "This is Not a Christmas Concert" on Tuesday, December 2, 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St., Carson City.

Nearly 100 string players, including Carson City public, private, and home-schooled students, and students from surrounding areas, will perform several pieces, from classics to folk and fiddle tunes, from Baroque music by Arcangelo Corelli to jazz tunes by Duke Ellington. Admission is free.

Consort Canzona, a select group of local instrumentalists and singers, will present a seasonal program of Baroque works this Sunday, December 8, 2013, at 7:00 pm in Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 South (next to Best Buy) in Carson City.

Harpist Jeremy Keppelmann will perform in the historic Ballroom of the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on Friday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the recital, sponsored by the Carson City Symphony Association and the Brewery Arts Center, is $10 for adults, and $5 for youth age 12 and under. Tickets are available at www.breweryarts.org, (775) 883-1976, and at the door.

The Carson City Symphony will play Saturday April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Carson Community Center with a program of "Dances and Romances" featuring guest harpist Marina Roznitovsky. Sounds like a concert not to be missed.

Roznitovsky will join the symphony for Saint-Saens' Morceau de Concert for Harp and Orchestra. Conducting will be David Bugli. Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 for seniors, students and Symphony Association members. Those 16 and under are admitted free.

The Reno-Tahoe-Truckee community has six opportunities this December to enjoy TOCCATA’s wonderful tradition of producing selections from "Handel's Messiah" in a Holiday Concert, including a performance in Carson City on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
The Carson City performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The Carson City concert features the 60-voice Carson High School Concert Choir, alumni and Carson soloists, and will be a benefit for the high school choir’s future tour presentations.

LAKE TAHOE — Visitors and locals alike can head to the shoreline of the Tallac Historic Site for some of the area’s most unique and diverse entertainment. The Valhalla Arts, Music, and Theatre Festival is bringing down the house with its July line-up and it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
