MONDAY, August 27: Things to do in Carson City

Three incidents took place in Lander County on Saturday, Aug. 18: A helicopter crash involving employees with the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW), the Sheep Creek Fire, and a burn-over of two firefighters responding to the fire.

The Carson City Airport has been awarded grants totaling $845,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration to pay for road and taxiway repairs and to install weather reporting equipment.

The free community, family-friendly event draws thousands of visitors annually, where airplane and aircraft enthusiasts gather to learn about aviation and aerospace related careers.

The Carson City Airport is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year and will hold its annual Open House this Saturday, June 23 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free community event, which annually draws more than 6,000 visitors, takes place at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway.

After a career in air traffic control while also owning a publishing company, Ken Moen — who worked for the Reno Tahoe Airport Authority — is now managing the Carson City Airport.

NORDEN, Calif. — Winds that tear weather gauges from their mountings and blizzards that bury chairlifts - this is the kind of weather that hits Donner Summit, and holds great interest to climatologists, meteorologists, hydrologists and water supply managers as well as creates one of the best regions for skiing in the world.

A powerful spring storm moving into the Sierra, Carson City and western Nevada regions will bring drenching rains, gusty winds and the potential for river flooding through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Well, the expected rain didn’t show up overnight, but that doesn’t mean it’s not on its way. The brand-new Friday morning walk with Muscle Powered is weather permitting and will meet at the Multi-purpose Athletic Center instead of Fuji Park if it’s wet out. You’ll notice a sea of blue downtown after noon as the annual pinwheel planting for Child Abuse Awareness takes place; the community is welcomed to lend a hand. It’s aviation night at the Children’s Museum with paper airplanes and pilots on the agenda.

With March now a memory, all attention weather wise this first week of April turns to a spring storm expected to arrive in the Carson City and Sierra region Friday that forecasters say will bring gusty winds, heavy rain and the potential for flooding along creeks, streams and rivers.

After Friday's storm brought as much as 13 inches of snow to Carson City, the next storm to arrive this week is likely to produce rain in the valleys with heavy snow to stay in the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.

The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City will feature special event nights beginning Friday, April 6, with an aviation theme for all those kids who dream of flying airplanes.

Will Carson City see several inches of snow on the ground from a winter storm expected to blow through region beginning Thursday? National Weather Service forecasters are leaning toward a resound yes.

A 64-year-old Minden man has been identified as the victim in a plane crash that happened Monday in north Douglas County, officials said Tuesday.

Carson City emergency crews are on scene at the Carson City Airport following a report of an aircraft that had reportedly veered off the northwest section of the airport's runway Sunday afternoon at around 12:40 p.m.

MINDEN — The famed U.S. Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron will be featured at the 2018 Aviation Roundup Airshow, Douglas County and Minden-Tahoe Airport announced Tuesday.

CARSON CITY — As the Nevada National Guard prepares to enter 2018, a look back on the Silver State’s past year reveals an unprecedented request for domestic response activations, not just in Nevada and northern California, but also places around the nation, ranging from Oregon to Puerto Rico.

A storm will bring strong winds to the Carson City region Sunday, then valley rain and Sierra snow later through Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service. A High Wind Warning is in effect until 4 a.m. for much of Western Nevada.

The next in a series of storms should arrive in the Carson City region Wednesday bringing more in the way of wind rather than significant amounts of valley rain or Sierra snow, according to the National Weather Service.

A storm will move into the Carson City region this weekend bringing wind, rain and a chance of snow in the foothills and up to 3 feet in higher elevations, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Storm Watch for the Sierra and Lake Tahoe Basin.
