Geeks Who Drink trivia at Lake Tahoe Brewing Co. is a fun and silly way to pass an evening; and you can win prizes. Get some shopping done at the Carson Mall, and don’t forget your Hawaiian shirt: Hawaiian Santa will be there for photos. You’ll want your cowboy boots for line dancing at Carson Lanes.

St. Mary's Holiday Faire 2015

The event is Saturday, December 5th from 10am - 5pm and will offer a variety of work for sale. Refreshments will also be available.
Our Winter Exhibition will also be on display, with our Opening Reception from 12pm - 5pm. Our winter artists, Karen Kreyeski, Linda Gamble, Gloria Beth and a collaboration with Becca Jane Rubinfeld, Brinton Jones and Miranda McFarland present a dynamic variety of work.

Bundle up and cheer on our high school. Sierra Lutheran High School’s theater department is presenting Borrowed Time; break a leg. Mary Poppins returns for its second weekend at the Community Center. The Western Nevada Musical Theater Company has outdone themselves this season, so hurry and get tickets or you may miss out.

The real cold shows up late Sunday and brings with it a good chance for snow. Mary Poppins would advise we bear it with a spoon full of sugar.

The Broadway musical, Mary Poppins, opens today and is sure to be one of their best productions yet. For those who don’t know their lines, head to Improv at the Brewery Art Center and see what you can come up with on the fly. Live music hits the stage at Westside Pour House, Glen Eagles, Living the Good Life, and Comma Coffee.

Warm your soul with some artwork at one of our many exhibits around town. Don’t miss the Backseat Gallery Artist Reception at Comma Coffee. The rotating exhibit changes monthly, and they celebrate the new work every first Wednesday. Music is another great way to warm the heart, so catch the musician’s open mic at Sassafras or a jazz jam at Living the Good Life. Get your karaoke on at Crossroads Lounge on Winnie Lane; it’s under new ownership.

Take it easy at lunchtime and enjoy some bluesy music with Dave Leather at Comma Coffee. Or head down after work for their monthly Artist Reception. Billy Migan will be displaying his exhibit titles Pen Sketches. From there, head south a few blocks for ladies night at the Ormsby Club if you’re the pool playing kind. Lake Tahoe Brewery is the place to be for fun trivia and prizes, bring your friends.

It continues until Monday, so there is plenty of time to get your fill of bar-be-que. Explore the World at the Carson City Library tonight. Valarie Wilson gives a presentation on her time as a student at Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey. Step into the past with Wild Bill Hickock and Buffalo Bill Cody at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park. Enjoy the new art exhibit at Comma Coffee; ‘See the World Through My Eyes’ by Linda Arnn Arteno is the feature of tonight’s artist reception.

Jazz at Sassafras and a music Jam at Firkin and Fox are just for starters. Get your brain going at ‘Geeks Who Drink’ trivia at Lake Tahoe Brewing Company and wish your host Mikey a happy birthday. Cowboy boots are optional if you head to Line Dance lessons at Carson Lanes on the south end of town, or at Beercade on North Carson St. Ladies can enjoy half off pool at the Ormsby Club. Comma Coffee hosts their monthly Artist reception this evening, welcoming the latest works of Santiago Chavez in their Backseat Gallery.

Fireworks displays, picnics, and family fun are predicted for the weekend. In the meantime, enjoy the artist reception at Comma Coffee or live music at Living the Good Life. Check out the jazz jam at Sassafras or groove with Josh and Janera at the Firkin and Fox tonight.

Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly features the Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, vendors, a brewfest, moustache competition and more. The Karson Kruzers are hosting their annual car show at Fuji Park, but will be making their way downtown after it’s over, so there will be plenty of cool cars to admire. Mojo Green takes the stage at 7 p.m. and you can head into the Carson Cigar Company to enjoy Reno’s newest Pink Floyd Tribute Band, Scarlett Moon at 9 p.m.

Don’t miss the exhibit by Su Limbert in the Legislative Gallery, the session is over and the exhibit closes at the end of the week. While you’re downtown head over to the BRIC building on Proctor for the BRIC Art 5 exhibit. By the Nevada State Museum you’ll find the Nevada Arts Council: their gallery is exhibiting Pasha Rashat.

Salvador Dali, the Spanish artist known for his surrealist works, was a bike rider, too; happy birthday to him. An artist reception this evening at the Nevada Arts Council honors Pasha Rafat. Her sculpture exhibit titled ‘New Work’ is on display through July 10.

Head to the Firkin and Fox this afternoon and join the Nevada Craft Brewers Association to toast the 2015 Legislative session. Sample Nevada´s finest craft brews, mingle with the craft brewers and enjoy live music with the Trippin King Snakes. Keep the good times rolling with even more live music at Sassafras, Living the Good Life, or Glen Eagles.

It may be a day for pranks, but child abuse is no joke; join the Advocates to End Domestic Violence at the Legislature for the annual planting of Pinwheels for Prevention.
Get a glimpse of the world beyond at the Carson City Library: Dixie and Rob Jennings-Teats discuss their time living in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Ascent Runs is hosting a 5/10K and a half marathon at C-Hill on Saturday. You can register at the race, just make sure you aren’t late. Youth Football season has arrived with sign-ups for SYFL and Pop Warner on Saturday. Cheer on the Western Nevada College Wildcats as their Baseball and Softball teams battle against Salt Lake City Community College.

An artist reception honoring Sarah Lillegard will be held at the Nevada Arts Council where her exhibit ‘Second Skin’ is on display. Sande Rowan will share knowledge about baskets around the world in the first of six ‘The Work of Artists’ SENarts events. The Galaxy Theatre brings the Metropolitan Opera back to Carson City this week with an Encore showing of Duke Bluebeard’s Castle, the live showing occurred Saturday morning.

There are so many options for a good time tonight: an artist reception at the CCAI Courthouse gallery, ‘Himalaya’ playing at the Community Center as part of the International Film Weekend, Improv at the Brewery Arts Center, wine tasting at Genoa Coffee and Candy, and loads of music!
If you think today holds a plethora of good times, wait until you see what the weekend has lined up!

If you haven’t heard yet, Sassafras has returned and is serving up its Eclectic fare in its new location right next to the Carson Hot Springs. Downtown, the Lake Tahoe Brewing Co. will be hosting the Chamber of Commerce for its Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting. Capital Eats inside Westside Pour House (former home of Mo and Sluggo’s) always has some tempting dishes. A little further north on Carson St., Living the Good Life Nightclub and Bistro has live music this evening and a delicious array of options on its menu.

Nevada Artists Association's 64th 'Nevada Day' Art Show begins Oct. 27
Submitted by editor on Tue, 10/21/2014 - 10:52amThe 64th Nevada Day Art Show hosted by the Nevada Artists Association, is its biggest show of the year. This judged show will open on Monday, Oct. 27 and run through Friday, Jan. 2, 2015.
This exhibition was opened to all Nevada and Northern California artists and thus brings out the best and most recent works of the regions best painters, sculptors and photographers.
Awards are given for each media, Water color, oil, acrylic, pastel, photography and other, Best of show and Spirit of Nevada.
Sesquicentennial Fair in Carson City highlight Nevada 150 events throughout August

Lake Tahoe Science Conference highlights environment, economics, research

The conference, this year being held at Sierra Nevada College, features a scientific poster session and the opening of “Visualizing Change, a photographic exhibition,” on Tuesday evening followed by two full days of seminars and workshops covering more than 20 topics in three main areas:

It might have looked very much like the work of Michael Holcomb, an artist whose images are on view at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center Gallery West, May 14th through June 22nd.
