Red Cross seeks volunteers to serve Carson City and surrounding communities

RENO — The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada is seeking volunteers to join its Disaster Action Team, serving Carson City and surrounding communities in the Carson Valley and other areas of Douglas County.

FEMA emergency food and shelter program funds awarded to Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Washoe counties

Federal funds made available through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency have been awarded to jurisdictions in the state of Nevada for Phase 38. The eligible spending period for Phase 38 is January 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021. The following is a list of the awards for northern Nevada jurisdictions (counties) including Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Washoe.

This American Red Cross Babysitter's Training Course will provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for children and infants. This training will help participants develop leadership skills, develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe, understand children from ages 0 to 10, help children and infants with daily needs, help children with their behavior, and become fully certified in pediatric CPR and First Aid.

The Carson City region and much of western and northern Nevada may experience the hottest days of the year over the next couple days, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Heat Advisory from Sunday afternoon to Monday night.

With daylight saving time this weekend, the American Red Cross of Northern Nevada is reminding residents to check and replace smoke detector batteries and is offering a no-cost smoke alarm installation through its Home Fire Campaign.
