26 arrested, 8 for DUI over holiday weekend in Douglas; 18 arrests in South Lake Tahoe

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports that the 2014, 4th of July celebration in Douglas County went well. The celebratory crowds in the Stateline, Round Hill and Zephyr Cove areas of Lake Tahoe were large and with exception of a few altercations in the downtown Casino Core area, Nevada Beach and Zephyr Cove Beach, the crowd was relatively well behaved. Motorists were cooperative with the road closures and traffic control required for the fireworks display.

Ash Canyon to Kings Canyon Trail - Boulder Gateway Construction

Celebrating the 4th of July doing trail work, Carson City Ward 3 Supervisor John McKenna and Muscle Powered Senior Crew Leader Oliver Lieder started constructing a rock wall at the Boulder Gateway on the Ash Canyon to Kings Canyon Trail. Completion of this very scenic trail is expected in the late October.

Virginia City celebrates July 4 with annual parade

Many across the country, including here in northern Nevada, are celebrating Independence Day. For those who wanted to have more of a vintage 4th of July celebration, hundreds came to the Comstock for the annual parade.

"It's an awesome small town parade," said Karen Woodmansee, parade organizer. "If you want to know what America was like, it's still up here in Virginia City."

Many celebrations are scheduled statewide in the month of July. These Nevada 150 events help celebrate all things Nevada and bring awareness to the state’s 150th Anniversary of Statehood. The following events are held July 1 through July 12.

Inspectors flag 13 Lake Tahoe-bound vessels for invasive species since May

The July 4th holiday and fireworks celebrations always bring a welcomed influx of boaters to the Lake Tahoe Basin. With sunny skies and warm temperatures predicted for the 4th of July holiday week, boaters are urged to Clean, Drain and Dry their boats before arriving at the roadside inspection stations in Tahoe to avoid delays and decontamination fees. As a reminder, all stations close at 5:30 p.m., so please plan your travel accordingly.

South Lake Tahoe fireworks back on, lawsuit settlement reached

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority announced Tuesday that an agreement has been reached to dismiss the lawsuit ensuring South Lake Tahoe’s future fireworks celebrations will continue.

“Preserving the 4th of July and Labor Day shows and keeping Lake Tahoe and its beaches clean are of the utmost importance to our community,” said LTVA Executive Director Carol Chaplin.

Lawsuit settlement needed by April 4 or South Lake Tahoe July 4 fireworks show canceled

The message to Joseph and Joan Truxler is simple and clear: Meet with us, come up with a solution and drop your lawsuit by April 4. If the suit isn't dropped by then the South Lake Tahoe 4th of July Fireworks display will be canceled.

Homes threatened in wildfire burning in Douglas County off of Pine Nut Road

UPDATE 8:21PM The Bison Fire has grown to 1300 acres, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks. No structures have been damaged. No injuries reported. Additional resources have been ordered to assist, however due to other fires in the region and the 4th of July festivities, firefighting resources have been stretched thin.

North Lake Tahoe firefighters douse early morning brush fire

North Lake Fire Protection District personnel responded to a brush fire at 3:17 a.m. Tuesday at 400 Fairview Blvd., in Incline Village. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, containing it to approximately a half-acre in size.

The cause is under investigation. If anyone has information regarding this incident, please contact Assistant Fire Marshal, Mark Regan at 775-461-6200. The next door neighbor’s defensible space supported the suppression efforts with proper vegetation clearance and management.

Carson City Parks and Recreation steps it up for month of July

Carson City is joining the National Parks and Recreation Association in celebrating July as “Parks and Recreation Month.”

With warm temperatures and long daylight hours, summer is a great time to explore your city’s parks and trails, try a new recreation activity, or relax and enjoy a show. The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department has developed a calendar of events and is offering many options for free.
