Lattin Farms Scarecrow Factory

FALLON, Nev.—Lattin Farms, home of the Nevada corn maze, will be hosting their annual Scarecrow Factory at Lattin Farms on October 22, 2011.

The Scarecrow Factory is one of the most popular family events on the farm. The cost to participate in the event is $5.00. All proceeds will benefit Goats R Us and 4-H Club.

Virginia City Pet Jamboree added to annual Pet Parade this weekend

VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. — Just as Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny formed a winning box office team in "Space Jam," the competition will be hot and hilarious for Pet Jam on the Comstock this weekend.
A Pet Jamboree has been added to the annual Virginia City Pet Parade.

The Pet Jam will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Silverland Arena, directly behind the Silverland Inn & Suites, the same area used for the annual Virginia City Camel Races.

Wellness Fair with Veterans’ and Military Families’ Outreach on May 7

The Silver Stage Task Force’s 7th annual Wellness Fair is shaping up to be the best one yet, with live music by Queen Bee and the Dogheads, free kids’ immunizations and free health services and door prizes for all ages, healthy cooking demonstrations, Shriner’s clowns and a family fitness relay course.

Community Wellness and Veteran’s Services Fair Free and Open to All

SILVER SPRINGS, NEV — The Silver Stage Task Force is organizing its annual Wellness Fair featuring free health services, samples, and live entertainment for May 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This big rural fair is designed to help residents shop around for the best information on health and wellness with over 40 booths.
The completely free community event is open to everyone, and promotes the full spectrum of wellness, from good nutrition, gardening, and fitness to preventative health care and treatment to volunteer, arts and educational opportunities.

Silver Springs February Social for Families with Military Members and Veterans

Two guest speakers will be featured this month at the second Silver Springs social for families with military members and veterans.

The social will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Silver Springs Senior/Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Road in Silver Springs. The gathering is for Silver Springs and Stagecoach families of veterans, enlisted and reserve members, and for reserve, active duty, and veterans. It is open to anyone from Silver Springs and Stagecoach with a family member who is or has been in the military. Children are very welcome!

Continued support through Community Covenant for military families and veterans in Lyon and Storey counties

During the September 2010 Healthy Communities Coalition meeting, over 70 community leaders and officials from throughout Lyon County, Nevada gathered to sign a “community covenant.” The covenant promised Lyon County communities, State and local groups will work together to increase community support to the area’s military families and veterans. A number of new or expanded events and initiatives have followed that pledge.

Kids Fishing Day at Carson City’s New Urban Fishing Pond

Carson City's newest recreation feature will be dedicated on Oct. 23, along with a Fishing Day, highlighting the opening of the one-acre Urban Fishing Pond.

The event, which runs from 7 a.m. to noon at the Carson City Fairgrounds at 601 Old Clear Creek Road, is free to the public. Sponsors include the Nevada Department of Wildlife, Carson City Host Lions Club, and the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department.

Carson City car enthusiasts show and shine for cancer-stricken teen

Friday night shined in all shapes, sizes and hearts for McKenna Mitchell, a Carson City teen stricken with bone cancer. While McKenna wasn't able to attend because of chemotherapy treatments, Carson City put on a car show the 14-year-old girl would be proud of. The event was held at Kragen-O'Reilly's.

There were 66 entries in the Show and Shine, with all proceeds going to help McKenna's family with medical costs, according to organizers Holly and Kenson Seymour.

Carson City cleanup on Saturday with National Public Lands Day

Conservation-minded residents, students, family and friends are encouraged to join the annual cleanup along the banks of the Carson River, Brunswick Canyon and Prison Hill Recreation Area on Saturday as part of the 17th National Public Lands Day.
