Carson City Complete Streets Project community meeting set for Tuesday

Citizens and stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback and explore the South Carson Complete Streets Project conceptual designs, which are in the early stages of development.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Ormsby Room located at 911 East Musser Street, in Carson City. Presentations will begin 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., leaving additional time for gathering ideas and open discussion.
The South Carson Complete Streets Project plans to convert the large South Carson Street corridor into more productive uses that facilitate comfortable, convenient, and safe travel for pedestrians and cyclists; improve access to abutting businesses; spur private investment in this important and vibrant commercial corridor; increase driver safety; and prepare Carson City for future Smart City advancements.
The approximate project limits are from the intersection of South Carson Street and 5th Street, south to the intersection of South Carson Street and Appion Way. The project includes pedestrian safety measures, ADA-compliant sidewalks and curb ramps, narrowed travel lanes, a buffered multi-use path, dedicated bicycle facilities, a roundabout, critical improvements to stormwater infrastructure, improved business access, public art, lighting fixtures, new signals, upgrades to the water and sewer systems, and fiber optic communications improvements that will complete the City’s core communications ring.
Construction is anticipated to start near the end of 2019.
The meeting will include a presentation on the South Carson Street 30% preliminary design plans, project schedule, and discuss various communication tools for the public to stay connected during the design and construction process.
The public is encouraged to use this opportunity to provide input on the development of the South Carson Street corridor. Two public meetings were conducted; the first in 2016 and the second in 2017, both with the purpose of obtaining information on the types of improvements the community would like to see along the corridor. It is the goal of the Carson City Public Works project management team to keep citizens engaged and involved throughout the design and construction process.
