Carson City Library to remain open during construction, parking shifted
Carson City Library patrons may have difficulty accessing the parking lot over the next couple of months as the city constructs a new water main on Washington Street between Roop and Phillips streets.
“Our driveway and Roop Street access may be blocked in the process,” said Sena Loyd, director of the Carson City Library. “The Carson City Community Center and Smith’s have both graciously offered to share their parking lots with us during those times.”
According to a notice sent from Carson City Public Works, construction was set to begin Monday and is expected to continue for 45 business days.
“The project consists of constructing a new water transmission main in the designated streets,” the notice reads. “This project will also include reconstruction of the existing paved areas including removal and replacement of designated sidewalk, curb and gutter, driveways, valley gutter and pedestrian ramps throughout the project limits.”
Loyd said the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop St., will maintain normal operating hours throughout the construction, with parking, when necessary, at nearby lots.
“We appreciate the support of both of our neighbors,” Loyd said. “It will make this transition time much smoother.”
Loyd said access to the drive-up book drop will be remain available through the alleyway between William and Washington streets.
The Friends of the Library Bookstore, 711 Washington St., will also remain open during the construction.
