Carson City man jailed on felony weapon and drug charges

A 41-year-old man with an extensive criminal history in Carson City was arrested Wednesday and faces felony charges of being a felon in possession of a loaded weapon, possession of methamphetamine and prescription drugs. A 25-year-old female passenger with him faces two misdemeanor charges.

Franklin Trevino was stopped for speeding 11:18 p.m. in the area of Saliman and 5th Street. According to the arrest report, officers patrolling paced the Chevy sedan Trevino was driving doing 35 in a 25 mph zone. The vehicle also crossed over and straddled the yellow line for nearly one city block.

The Special Enforcement Team patrol sergeant conducted the traffic stop, and realized that it was Trevino, and that there had been previous contacts with him, including a known history of violence against law enforcement, evading, possession of illegal drugs and weapons, the arrest report said.

The patrol sergeant explained to Trevino why he was stopped and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer asked the man to step outside the vehicle where Trevino stated: "come on, can't you give me a break," the arrest report said.

Trevino stepped out of the vehicle and was detained. Officers then discovered a handgun on the driver's seat. The gun, loaded with one in the chamber, was pointing toward the front of the vehicle and was in the position of being tucked under Trevino's right leg as he was sitting. The female passenger was also ordered out of the vehicle and checked for weapons.

Trevino was taken into custody and the vehicle was impounded. During inventory SET deputies located a prescription bottle with 27 Lisinopril pills in it, a methamphetamine pipe, a marijuana pipe, a scale, used empty small baggies, one spoon with residue on it and a baggie containing a small amount of methamphetamine, the arrest report said.

Trevino was not currently registered as as a felon in Carson City and stated he had been sleeping at local motels. Nevada DMV confirmed he had a suspended driver's license.

The passenger had one felony conviction for robbery in 2007. She told officer she was staying between Carson City and Mound House in local motels, failing to register as a convicted felon. She faces misdemeanor charges of failing to register and possession of marijuana. Bail: $1,349.

Trevino faces the following felony charges: Felon with a loaded gun, possession of methamphetamine and possession of prescription drugs without a prescription and misdemeanor charges of being a felon failing to register, driving under a suspended driver's license, speeding, failure to maintain a single lane and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $27,182.
