Nevada State Prison featured in Carson City Christmas Ornament series
Since 2003 the Office of Business Development, through the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee, has chosen and produced an ornament featuring an important building in the history of our city.
Featured ornaments of the past and still available are St. Peter’s, Civic Auditorium, Presbyterian Church Depot, V&T Depot, St. Teresa, Bliss Mansion and more.
A limited number of the ornaments are produced each year. The Nevada State Prison was chosen to be honored as the 2015 ornament because of its importance to Nevada and Carson City history. The NSP was recently placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The ornament is very detailed and in silver color and is nestled in a blue gift box.
Collectors may currently purchase the ornaments at the Purple Avocado, 904 N. Curry Street; Carson City Chamber Artisan Shop at 1900 S. Carson; and from the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society (NSPPS) – Cheryl Knight at 297-3242. The price is $15 per ornament.
Past ornaments –with the exception of years 2003 and 2006 – may be ordered to add to the collection. The ornament makes a great hostess gift and will be treasured for many years.
