Carson City arrests: Suspected stoned driver stopped after fast food drive-thru incident
A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Wednesday morning in the area of Stewart and Long streets for misdemeanor suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and failure to use a turn signal.
According to the booking report, a deputy was called to the 300 block of East William Street regarding a possible DUI driver at Jack-in-the-Box. Dispatch advised a witness believed the driver to be under the influence after he passed the drive-thru window and then, while attempting to back up to the window, hit a curb and was instructed to stop by employees.
A deputy located the vehicle and observed the driver failing to signal at a left hand turn at William and Stewart streets. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and requested the man’s driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance.
A heavy odor of marijuana emanated from the vehicle, according to the arrest report. The man’s speech was extremely slow, and he displayed difficulty focusing with the task of gathering paperwork, having to be reminded several times to continue looking for it, the arrest report states.
While he was looking for paperwork he opened the center console of the vehicle where the officer observed two jars of marijuana and a multi-colored glass pipe on the floor board. The man submitted to standardized field sobriety tests, losing his balance and falling over. He told the officer “okay, I smoked more than two bowls,” and then laughed, according to the arrest report.
He was placed into custody at 4:04 a.m. and an evidentiary blood draw was taken at Carson City jail. Bail: $3,083.
