Carson City area weather: Windy with valley rain, high elevation snow showers possible
A strong cold front is pushing through western Nevada and the Carson City region Monday, bringing gusty winds and later, a chance for a few isolated thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.
A Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 2 p.m. Monday. Windy conditions will continue ahead of the front with gusts of 40-50 mph possible mainly across Mono and Mineral counties with localized higher gusts across wind prone areas.
A band of rainfall will accompany the cold front with a few isolated thunderstorms possible Monday. Light, high-elevation snow showers will be possible mainly above 8,000-8,500 feet with a couple of inches possible.
Temperatures will also cool off 15 to 20 degrees over Sunday's highs. Tuesday morning's low temperatures may reach the freezing mark for colder outlying valleys across western Nevada with 20s possible for Sierra valleys.
For the Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, daytime highs will be in the mid-60s Monday, low 70s on Tuesday, upper 60s Wednesday, low 60s Thursday, with a chance of showers on Wednesday and Thursday.
For the Lake Tahoe area, highs will be in the mid 50s Monday, low 60s Tuesday and the mid to low 50s on Wednesday and Thursday. Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 30s around lake level, and freezing at the higher elevations, according to the weather service.
