A man who died at Lake Tahoe on Monday, Sept. 5 while scuba diving off the shores of Lake Tahoe has been identified as a 63-year-old Sacramento man.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says Michael Stephen Majewski died in the waters off of Glenbrook while scuba diving at the wreckage of the SS Tahoe.
The investigation continues into this accident and the cause of death is pending autopsy and toxicology results, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Undersheriff Paul Howell.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office initial investigation established Majewski was diving with two friends off of Glenbrook at the wreckage of the SS Tahoe in about 360 feet of water.
The victim and his diving companions are experienced divers and had completed a similar dive at the same wreckage the day before, said Howell. Early in this the dive the victim made an emergency ascent to the surface for unknown reasons. When he reached the surface he was unconscious and not responsive.
A Washoe County Sheriff's Office Marine 9 rescue vessel found Majewski on a diving boat and where CPR was being administered. Marine 9 transported him to the Glenbrook pier where life saving efforts were continued by Tahoe Douglas Fire Department paramedics. Those efforts were unsuccessful and Majewski was pronounced dead at the scene.
