Special Enforcement Team, Gang Unit arrest three family members for drugs, harboring a fugitive

Three family-members were arrested by Special Enforcement Team Deputies of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office after parents of a fugitive harbored their daughter to avoid arrest on a burglary warrant.

According to the police report, Adrianna Vanegas 24, Christine Vanegas 47, and Felipe Antonio Vanegas 53, were arrested in the 2200 block of Mayflower Way Thursday afternoon after it was determined Christina and Felipe were harboring their daughter, Adrianna, who was a fugitive for justice and had an outstanding felony burglary warrant for her arrest.

Carson City SET and Detective Bureau have been conducting an investigation into residential burglary where electronics were stolen in May, said the arrest report. Over the last two months, SET and Gang Unit personnel have visited the Venegas home multiple times in an attempt to arrest Adrianna or speak with her parents.

Both parents have been advised multiple times that Adrianna had an active arrest warrant for felony burglary, the report states. The Sheriff’s Office also issued a press release indicating Adrianna was wanted for felony burglary.

SET established surveillance on the Venegas home and confirmed Adrianna was inside. Deputies received a warrant to search the residence for Adrianna and property pertaining to the burglary.

SET, TRINET and Gang Unit Investigators surrounded the residence and instructed the occupants to exit the home via PA system. Felipe appeared at the window and demanded to see a search warrant. Deputies continued to instruct the occupants to exit the residence.

Finally, Felipe exited the residence but refused to step off the property line and argued with deputies. He was forcibly taken into custody by deputies.

Christine also appeared at the window of the residence and began to yell at deputies, and told them to “f*** off” when they explained they had a search warrant. She exited through the south door and came into the driveway, but she too refused to leave the property. She instead continued to yell profanities at deputies and refused the lawful order to step off the property, according to the report.

A detective pointed their taser at Christine and ordered her to come toward deputies. She refused. A TRINET detective attempted to handcuff her. There was a lighter and a cigarette in her hand and she forced deputies to leave a relatively safe point of cover to forcibly detain her. She refused to drop the items in her hand.

Deputies attempted to remove the items from her hands and she balled her fist and continued to yell “F*** you” at deputies. According to the report, deputies were in a dangerous position because they were exposed to the front of the residence. Deputies took control of Christine’s head and upper body and brought her behind a police vehicle where she could safely be handcuffed. She was then detained and checked by medics.

Adrianna surrendered shortly after and was detained without incident.

Inside the residence deputies located a mirror with a drug-like substance on the surface located on the kitchen island near Christine’s purse which had Adrianna’s Welfare paperwork inside, indicating both had access to the drugs.

In the northern bedroom they located a digital scale and a safe. They found two ash trays containing methamphetamine, several methamphetamine pipes, several hypodermic devices, and the digital scale described above.

In Christine and Felipe’s room, deputies located a digital scale with methamphetamine residue in the top drawer of the dresser.

On Felipe’s person, deputies found a container which contained muscle relaxers for which he had no prescription.

Adrianna was booked on: Felony burglary warrant, contempt of court warrant, both out of Carson City, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $34,637; $30,000 cash only

Christine was booked on harboring a fugitive, obstructing, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $14,049

Felipe was booked on harboring a fugitive and possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription. Bail: $12,500

— A 24-year-old Carson City man and a 25-year-old transient woman were arrested in the area of Adeline and N. Curry Thursday night for possession of a controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia.

Brent Michael Martin was also arrested for driving with a revoked license, driving with fictitious registration, and DUI drugs second.

Sarah Marie Evans was also on probation, and received an additional offense for violating that probation.

According to the report, SET deputies were patrolling in an unmarked police vehicle when they were patrolling the area of a motel in the 1700 block of N. Carson Street which is known for high drug and criminal activities.

Deputies observed a vehicle enter the motel parking lot through the north driveway. According to the report, it appeared that Martin observed the deputy on foot patrol and quickly left the motel. The vehicle went to the east side of the parking lot and exited onto Carson Street without stopping or visiting any room.

Deputies stopped the vehicle in the area of Adeline and Curry after dispatch advised the vehicle’s license plates were fictitious.

According to deputies, Martin was immediately agitated and challenged the reason for the stop; he made rapid movements with his hands and appeared to be under the influence of a stimulant.

Deputies detained Martin for the fictitious plates on the vehicle.

At first, Martin followed commands to put his hands behind his back but then darted his right hand forward suddenly. Deputies gained control of the right hand and placed him into handcuffs. His muscles were rigid and tense and his veins were distended, all signs of stimulant use.

Martin admitted to using methamphetamine earlier in the day.

On his person deputies located a marijuana pipe and a small amount of marijuana.

Deputy K-9 Ivo was dispatched to the scene, who conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle. Ivo alerted to the presence of drug odor at the backpack Evans had been holding. As Ivo pushed the backpack with his nose, a methamphetamine pipe fell out of the backpack and onto the ground. It also contained another methamphetamine pipe, and a small amount of methamphetamine in a lip balm container.

Ivo continued to sniff at the vehicle and alert to the presence of drug odor at the passenger side. Deputies located a camo backpack behind the driver seat which contained an additional methamphetamine pipe.

Dispatch advised Evans was on supervision with the Department of Alternative Sentencing, and was to have no contact with Martin as they were co-defendants in a case, in addition to not possessing drugs or paraphernalia. They requested Evans be arrested for the violation.

The two were arrested and transported to the Carson City Jail without incident.

Bail for Martin: $6,886

Bail for Evans: $6,637; $3,000 cash only
