Douglas County Sheriff's Office: Scuba diver exploring SS Tahoe dies
A 63-year-old man died Monday while scuba diving off the shore of Glenbrook at Lake Tahoe, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office initial investigation established the victim, who has not been identified, was diving with two friends off of Glenbrook at the wreckage of the SS Tahoe in about 360 feet of water, said DSCO Undersheriff Paul Howell.
The victim and his diving companions are experienced divers and had completed a similar dive at the same wreckage the day before, said Howell. Early in this the dive the victim made an emergency ascent to the surface for unknown reasons. When he reached the surface he was unconscious and not responsive.
A Washoe County Sheriff's Office Marine 9 rescue vessel found the man on a diving boat and where CPR was being administered. Marine 9 transported the victim to the Glenbrook pier where live saving efforts were continued by Tahoe Douglas Fire Department paramedics. Those efforts were unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced dead.
The identity of the victim is being withheld until the next of kin is notified. The investigation continues.
