Bicyclist seriously injured after colliding with pickup in Fernley
A bicyclist collided with a pickup on Main Street in Fernley Tuesday that resulted in serious injuries, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
NHP troopers were dispatched at 12:30 p.m. to the accident in front of the Villa mobile home park just west of the roundabout in Fernley, said Trooper Dave Gibson.
Preliminary investigation details indicate David Bertroch, 57, of Fernley was riding his bicycle without a safety helmet westbound in the No. 1 travel lane on Main St. in front of a Chevy pickup that was driven by 52-year-old Fernley driver.
For reasons undetermined at this time the cyclist and the pickup truck collided and both vehicles came to rest blocking the #1 travel lane. Bertroch was transported by North Lyon County ambulance service to Renown Medical Center for serious head injuries. The driver of the pickup was not injured during the collision.
Due to the circumstances surrounding the accident, no one has been placed at fault and no citation has been issued at this time. The accident is still under investigation.
