Nevada's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources director Leo Drozdoff to retire
Nevada's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Director Leo Drozdoff will retire in September, Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Thursday.
Drozdoff has has been a state employee for more than 25 years and served as director of DCNR since 2009. His departure will also create vacancies at the Rocky Mountain Waste Board, the Colorado River Salinity Control Forum Board and the Public Employees’ Benefits Program Board where he currently presides as Chairman.
“Leo was a steady leader of the Department and someone I have come to rely on since taking office. He and I worked together to solve stormwater issues to improve environmental conditions across Nevada and I tasked him with leading the Drought Forum and providing recommendations to address ongoing concerns related to drought. He was instrumental in Anaconda Mine Site negotiations with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and served as an excellent first Chairman of the Sagebrush Ecosystem Council and founding member of the Department of Energy working group,” said Governor Brian Sandoval. “I will miss his leadership at the Department but wish him the very best as he enters into his retirement from state service."
Sandoval said anew director will be named at a later date and, if necessary, he would name an Interim director prior to his last day, Sept. 6.
“I am incredibly grateful to have served under the leadership of Governor Sandoval since day one of his administration. I leave with full confidence that we have accomplished a great deal that will undoubtedly benefit Nevadans for years to come,” said DCNR Director Leo Drozdoff. “From his love of state parks to his dedication to maintaining and conserving Nevada’s clean waters, Governor Sandoval placed a renewed priority on DCNR and its staff. It is the right time for me to transition out of state service and begin a new chapter in my life.”
