Two suspects have been arrested following a search warrant early Wednesday morning at a north Carson City home that drug enforcement authorities say was part of a network of methamphetamine, heroin and prescription pill sales in the area that involved gang members from Southern California.
The warrant, served by the TRI-NET Narcotics Task Force shortly before 4 a.m., at a home on Northgate and Hampton streets, was served with the assistance of the Carson City SWAT team because of the high risk nature, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong and TRI-NET Sgt. Dan Jonhson.
The TRI-NET operation was part of a two month investigation that involved the Carson City and Douglas County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Teams, the DEA and CNET drug task force. Paramedics were also assigned to the operation for precautionary measures.
Two women inside the home were detained and later cleared. A man inside the home was arrested on warrants. A second man, considered the main suspect, was subsequently arrested in Carson City by Douglas County SET deputies, said Johnson. The names of the suspects are forthcoming. They are in the process of being booked.
Also inside the home were five children. Knowing well in advance there were children living in the home, getting them secured safely was at the forefront of the operation, said Furlong.
“Our highest priority was getting all the kids out first, we did and the kids were fine and not frightened,” said Furlong.
The suspects are believed to be part of a pipeline of drug operations involving methamphetamine, heroin and pharmaceutical pills being sold around Carson City and Douglas County. The home was searched with the aid of a Carson City sheriff's K9. At least one suspect remains at large.
With enough intelligence gathered through Douglas County and Carson City SET officers, TRI-Net secured a search warrant. SWAT made their way into the front of the home. The children were immediately secured and the three adults detained.
TRI-NET Sgt. Johnson said SWAT was necessary due to the criminal background of those involved in the drug network. The suspects have histories of gang violence, weapons and drugs in the southern California area.
“It’s safer for everyone when all the agencies work together,” said Johnson.
