Carson City Supervisors to vote on increasing fees for services
Carson City Supervisors will be voting at their Aug. 4 meeting on whether to increase fees for a host of services, including water, sewer, right-of-way-toll, electric and natural gas franchise fees, and landfill rates.
During last week's board meeting, City Manager Larry Werner discussed increased costs the city will incur due to changes in the state budget, and franchise fees were one of the options raised to fill that gap.
Here is a press release sent out by the city today:
On August 4, 2011 the Carson City Board of Supervisors, on first reading, will consider the adoption of amendments to four ordinances which will increase sewer, water, rightof-way toll, electric and natural gas business license (franchise) fees and landfill rates and fees.
The increase of sewer service rates is proposed to be 14% (1% for operations and 13% for capital program debt service) and would be effective on bills dated on or after September 1, 2011. The average residential increase would be approximately $3.48 per month.
The increase in water service rates is proposed to be 5% (1% for operations and 4% for capital program debt service) and would be effective on bills dated on or after September 1, 2011. The average residential increase would be approximately $1.14 per month.
The Right-of-Way Tolls for Water and Sewer will be increased from 1% to 2% on bills dated on or after September 1, 2011. This would be approximately $0.50 per month more on a residential combined water and sewer bill.
The increase in electric and natural gas business license (franchise) fees are proposed to be 1% and 0.5 % respectively. The average residential increase for both fees would be approximately $2.50 per month.
The increase to landfill fees vary according to category and will become effective September 1, 2011. The rate will generally increase $3.00 per ton for normal residential household type waste. Other fees and categories have been consolidated.
