Carson City weather: Cool down with showers, high Sierra snow late Saturday and Sunday
We may have had a touch of summer heat last weekend, but late spring weather conditions are ahead for Carson City and the Sierra this weekend with a cool down, possible thunderstorms and even some high elevation snow in the mix.
The National Weather Service says there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday late afternoon through Sunday, mainly south of Highway 50. Also temperatures will be quite cool compared to the 90s we've experienced last weekend. Daytime highs will be in the low to mid 70s Saturday and Sunday around Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, according to the weather service.
In the high country, there's a chance of light snowfall above 9,500-10,000 feet in the central and southern Sierra and White Mountains. Highs in the Lake Tahoe Basin, around 6,500 feet will be in the low 60s.
Hikers and campers in the eastern Sierra region should plan on encountering wet and perhaps winter conditions in the high elevations this weekend. Pass roads could see wet snow, however no major travel impacts anticipated.
Meanwhile, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect Friday for Carson City and the Western Nevada Sierra Front through 11 p.m. Friday. Winds will be from the southwest, 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph and humidity between 10 and 15 percent.
