Woman rescued from cliffs above Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe
An Incline Village woman was rescued from the cliffs above Vikingsholm in Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe on Thursday after she slipped while climbing down the mountain.
The woman had been climbing in the steep cliff bands from Vikingsholm parking lot down towards the main castle. She slipped and slid down the embankment becoming stuck on the cliff band. She was not injured but could not climb up or down and was in the need of rescue.
El Dorado County Search and Rescue, Lake Valley Fire Department, Cal Fire, California State Park and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue all responded to the May 5 incident at 3:30 p.m. The distress call said a person was hanging on a steep cliff.
Rescuers used ropes to access the woman's location where she was rescued and lowered down to safety as shown in the video below.
At the time temperatures were cool with scattered to heavy rain showers.
El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind all outdoor recreational enthusiasts or visitors to know their surroundings and remain in recreational areas established for tourism or sightseeing.
