Carson City sheriff’s log: Man jailed for felony DUI; deputies make domestic battery arrests

A Carson City man was arrested Saturday in the 500 block of East William Street on suspicion of felony DUI, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Arrested was Jimmy Ray Saunders, 47. According to the booking report, deputies made a traffic stop at 4:44 p.m. due to a vehicle tail light violation. Deputies had been alerted the motorist was possibly driving under the influence.

During the traffic stop the deputy could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle. The suspect had thick, slurred speech and watery eyes. He was asked to step out of the vehicle and perform a series of standardized field sobriety tests. He showed signs of impairment on the tests. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and has had a prior conviction for felony DUI so he was charged with a felony DUI third offense and driving with a non-working tail lamp, the arrest report states. Bail: $20,072.

In other arrests: Carson City sheriff’s deputies made numerous domestic battery arrests on Saturday, Sunday and early Monday morning.

— A 33-year-old Carson City man was jailed on two counts misdemeanor domestic battery and child endangerment after an incident Saturday night in the 3500 block of Silver Sage. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area in reference to a possible child custody dispute. The suspect called 911 and told dispatchers that his parents were attempting to take his daughter away from him.

Deputies arrived and met with the suspect, who was intoxicated. The parents said they had planned a nice family dinner earlier in the night and that their son went out drinking with friends and didn’t return until 10 p.m. The family went ahead and ate dinner at 8 p.m. When the suspect questioned his mother why they didn’t wait for him, he threw a cell phone, hitting his mother between the eyes, according to the arrest report. Officers observed a bloody abrasion on the woman’s face.

The intoxicated suspect attempted to take the child and leave but the man’s father intervened. He was grabbed and pushed while holding onto his grandchild. Deputies arrested the 33-year-old man him on suspicion of two counts domestic battery against his parents and attempted child endangerment for his intentions to take his daughter from the residence while intoxicated. He gave a preliminary breath test of .121, the arrest report states. Bail: $8,911.

— A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 11:52 p.m. in the area Tiger Drive. According to the arrest report, the victim told deputies she and the suspect had been in a dating relationship for a month and a half and she was ending the relationship when he became physically abusive. The victim said she attempted to leave, but the man grabbed her forearms and pinched them, causing bruises that was noticeable to investigating deputies, according to the arrest report. Bail: $3,137.

— A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 1:46 a.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street on suspicion of domestic battery second offense and contempt of court. According to the arrest report, deputies responded to a residence in the 900 block of Mountain Park Drive.

The suspect allegedly pushed his girlfriend to the ground and then caused scratches to her neck and lip during an argument in which he took her cell phone. The victim had noticeable scratch marks, according to the arrest report. The man was found, later, in the parking lot at Walmart and taken into custody on suspicion of domestic battery and the Douglas County contempt of court warrant. Bail: $5,637.

— A 47-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 6:55 p.m. in the 1900 block of Desert Peach Drive on a misdemeanor warrant, failure to appear, issued November 2003 out of Lyon County Justice Court. Bail: $1,329.

— A 31-year-old Carson City woman was booked into jail Saturday, 6 p.m. on a misdemeanor warrant charge of violation of a suspended sentence. Bail; $1,000.

— A 23-year-old Dayton woman was arrested Saturday, 10:35 a.m. in the area of East Long and Marian streets on misdemeanor suspicion of violation of an extended protection order. Bail: $1,137.

— A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 11:52 p.m. in the 900 block of Long Street on misdemeanor suspicion of driving on a suspended non-resident license, no proof of insurance and expired registration. Bail: $1,446.

— A 68-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 6:51 p.m. in the 1600 block of East Fifth Street on a misdemeanor warrant, failure to appear, issued in June 2008. Bail: $832.

On May 15th, 2024, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on the 600 block of Angela Street in Fernley, Nev., reference a caller who reported that he had murdered his mother. The caller additionally provided that he barricaded himself inside the house, was armed with a rifle, and had planted pipe bombs at the residence.

On a sunny Saturday morning, 100 volunteer participants fanned out across Lake Tahoe’s South Shore to take water quality samples from 34 streams, creeks, ponds, and lakes to monitor the health of the Truckee River watershed and Lake Tahoe as part of the 24th annual Snapshot Day. They were joined by teams doing the same tests simultaneously in other regions of the watershed.

Just before noon on Tuesday a crash with injuries was reported on the I-580 on ramp from N. Carson Street.

According to dispatch there are two vehicles involved, one of which was towing a trailer.

Injuries have been reported and the number two lane is blocked.

Traffic cameras show vehicles are moving slowly but are able to get through to Washoe Valley.

Motorists must use caution in the area.
