Nevada fisheries biologist to speak Tuesday to Carson City Rotarians
Sam Sedillo, Fisheries Biologist for The Nevada Department of Wildlife in Washoe and Storey counties, will be the guest speaker at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. The public is invited to attend the meeting which takes place March 26th at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.
Sedillo will talk about fisheries management and conservation work that he does in Northern Nevada, specifically on places such as Lake Tahoe Basin, the Truckee River, and waters around Washoe County for both sportfish and native fish populations. “Fisheries conservation efforts are important in Northern Nevada because Nevada is the driest state in the US,” he said. “As fisheries biologists we work to protect the sportfishing opportunities and native fish that we have in the state throughout constant cycles of drought.”
Sedillo adds that The Nevada Department of Wildlife is one of the smallest state wildlife agencies in the nation. “But for our size, we are able to accomplish an amazing amount of work to conserve our diverse wildlife across the state.”
He will also discuss the role volunteers play in NDOW, and current volunteer opportunities.
