NHP identifies Dayton woman in fatal crash Friday on Highway 395 near Johnson Lane
The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a 70-year-old Dayton woman who died in a vehicle crash that happened Friday on Highway 395 south of Johnson Lane in Douglas County.
Laura Staugaard, 70, of Dayton was a front passenger in a vehicle that overturned in the crash. The incident happened Friday, Feb. 28, 2020. At approximately 9:02 p.m. NHP troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash involving two vehicles on US-395 south of Johnson Lane in Minden.
The preliminary investigation shows a red 2007 Toyota Tacoma was traveling northbound on US-395 approaching Johnson Lane at a high rate of speed and, according to witnesses, driving recklessly.
The Tacoma struck the rear of a blue 1995 Toyota 4Runner. The 4Runner overturned several times, ejecting the front passenger who was not wearing a seatbelt.
The front passenger of the 4Runner, Laura Staugaard, died at the scene, according to NHP. The crash remains under investigation.
