Legendary singer-songwriter Boz Scaggs brings soulful stylings to Lake Tahoe Memorial weekend

Event Date:
May 23, 2015 - 9:00pm

Grammy-Award winning singer-song writer Boz Scaggs will bring his timeless and soulful stylings of R&B, jazz, and guitar rock to Lake Tahoe’s MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa over the Memorial Day weekend with a one-night-only show Saturday, May 23.

Known for his one-of-a-kind silky voice wrapped around soulful, often introspective lyrics and a trademark soul-jazz-rock guitar groove, Scaggs gained fame in the 1960s as a guitarist and sometime lead singer with the Steve Miller Band. In the 1970s Scaggs had several solo Top 20 hit singles in the United States, including the well-known hits "Lowdown" and "Lido Shuffle" from the critically acclaimed album “Silk Degrees.”

Tickets are $55.50 and $65.50 plus fees, and available through Ticketmaster.com or the MontBleu Box Office for the 9 p.m. show.

Scaggs continues to tour, write and record music. In every phase of his career, William Royce Scaggs, known among fans as “Boz” the shortened version of his childhood nickname “Bosley” has remained true to his instincts with each record that reflects the spectrum of his musical interests.

In 1976, using session musicians who would later form Toto, he recorded “Silk Degrees.” The album reached No. 2 on the US Billboard 200, and No. 1 in a number of other countries, spawning four hit singles: "It's Over" and "What Can I Say" as well as the MOR standard "We're All Alone," later recorded by Rita Coolidge and Frankie Valli. "Lowdown" sold over one million copies in the U.S.

The 1980 album “Middle Man” spawned two Top 20 hits, "Breakdown Dead Ahead" and "Jojo;" and Scaggs enjoyed two more hits in 1980-81: "Look What You've Done to Me," from the “Urban Cowboy” soundtrack, and "Miss Sun" from a greatest hits set. Both were U.S. charting Top 20 hits.

While living in Napa Valley Scaggs opened the San Francisco nightclub Slim's in 1988 and remains a co-owner of the venue. From 1989 to 1992 Scaggs joined Donald Fagen, Phoebe Snow, Michael McDonald and others in The New York Rock and Soul Revue. His next solo release was the album “Some Change” in 1994 that features the tender, heart-breaking song “Sierra.”

Later Boz produced “Come On Home,” an album of blues, and “My Time,” an anthology, in the late 1990s. In May 2003, Scaggs released “But Beautiful,” a collection of jazz standards that debuted at No. 1 on the jazz chart. In 2008 he released “Speak Low,” which he described in the liner notes as "a sort of progressive, experimental effort along the lines of some of the ideas that Gil Evans explored."

During 2004, the artist released a DVD and a live 16 track CD that was recorded August 2003 at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. After taking a recording break, Scaggs hit the road on tour. Two years followed when the performer began a tour with Donald Fagen and Michael McDonald.

Boz's last album “Memphis” was released in 2013, recorded in Memphis at the Royal Studios. His newest album, "A Fool to Care" will be released on March 31, 2015. It was recorded in Nashville and is backed by Ray Parker, Jr. on guitar, Willie Weeks, Jim Cox, keyboards and Steve Jordan, drums. Jordan also produced the record. The album features Bonnie Raitt who plays guitar and sings on the track "Hell to Pay" and Lucinda Williams who performs a duet with Boz on the song"Whispering Pines," by The Band.

“I’m at a point where I’m having a lot of fun with music, more than ever,” Scaggs noted on the "Fool to Care" recording. “It’s like I’m just going wherever I want to go with it.”

In addition to touring extensively with his own band, Scaggs continues to work with Donald Fagen and Michael McDonald as The Dukes of September, most recently playing a 47-city tour to rave reviews, performing their own material along with R&B and soul classics.
