Carson City man arrested for battery, admits pushing Uber driver for refusing service dog

A 50-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for misdemeanor battery after allegedly pushing an Uber driver to the ground causing injury, a sheriff's report states.

According to the booking report, deputies were called to the 1300 block of North Carson Street at 3:53 p.m. Deputies met with the suspect, who explained his roommate ordered an Uber for both of them and when the Uber driver arrived he wouldn't let them in the vehicle because the roommate had a service dog. He said the driver wouldn't allow the service dog in the vehicle.

The suspect said his roommate left and went back to their room. The suspect said he became upset with the Uber driver and kicked the rear passenger door of the vehicle. The suspect said that the driver got out of the vehicle and began yelling at him. This made the suspect angry and that is when he pushed the Uber driver, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect said the driver never touched or threatened him, the arrest report states.

A witness to the altercation provided a statement and said she saw the suspect kick the vehicle and then push the driver to the ground, according to the report.

A deputy observed a minor abrasion to the right elbow of the driver and some swelling on the driver's hands. He declined medical attention but said that the man did push him to the ground, that he fell back on this right hand and elbow and that he wanted to press charges on the suspect. Bail: $1,137.
