Signups underway for Carson area substance abuse recovery summit Feb. 23-24
Are you in substance abuse recovery or know someone who is in recovery? Hear real life stories and learn about what recovery means at the inaugural Shane Murphy Recovery Summit happening Feb. 23-24 at Hilltop Community Church serving the Carson, Douglas area.
The summit is designed to teach anyone how to prepare for stopping drug and alcohol use and how to learn to help others thrive in their recovery.
The free two-day event will include guest speakers and workshops. A food truck will be in site to purchase dinner. Free breakfast and lunch provided on Saturday.
Topics to be addressed are:
— How substance abuse affects the brain
— How to engage with other cultures in recovery
— Prayer and faith in recovery
— Boundaries in recovery oriented environments
— Establishing 12-step recovery groups in your church
The event schedule is from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 and 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24. RSVP by calling 775-267-3020, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. People who wish to sign up can leave a message after hours on voicemail. RSVP by Feb. 20.
Hilltop Community Church is located at 3588 Romans Road, which is near the Carson City, Douglas County line.
