Ronald Slaven appointed to Tahoe planning agency governing board
While newly sworn-in Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval hasn't yet named his appointee to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, before he left office, appointed Ronald Slaven to the governing board.
Ronald Slaven, 47, of Carmichael, Calif., has been appointed to the TRPA, where he previously served as a member from 2001 to 2004.
Since 2009, Slaven, a Democrat, has been market development representative for Laborers Pacific Southwest Regional Organizing Coalition. Previously, he was market development representative for the Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust from 2007 to 2009 and business representative and vice president of the Construction and General Laborers’ Local 185 from 1998 to 2007.
California’s governor appoints two to serve on the board, which are non-paying appointments. Casey Beyer currently serves as a California appointment under Schwarzenegger.
On the Nevada side, the state's director of Conservation and Natural Resources holds a seat on the board. In December Sandoval named Leo Drozdoff as the Nevada director of Conservation and Natural Resources. Drozdoff could serve on the board himself or name someone as his proxy. The governor’s office also directly appoints one TRPA board member, but Sandoval has yet to announce who that will be.
Drozdoff was previously the administrator for the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection. Drozdoff has also served as the Bureau Chief of Mining Regulation and Reclamation, Water Pollution Control and as deputy administrator for NDEP's water programs.
Carson City's TRPA representative is Shelly Aldean, who sits on the Board of Supervisors. She currently serves as TRPA's vice-chair.
