Enrichment Fund gives Carson City opportunity to address needs for children
It is the little things that often make a big difference: The $10 lab fee for a chemistry class, $20 for a pair of soccer shoes, $40 towards a music or art program.
The Educational Enrichment Fund was established by Partnership Carson City, a 501c3 non profit organization to “promote the educational success and positive growth of young people through age 18 in our community,” said Kathy Bartosz, executive director of PCC. “We want to give every child the opportunity to participate in activities such as school-based clubs or classes, community sports, recreational and cultural arts activities that abound in Carson City.”
How does this program work? “We make every attempt to be good stewards of the donations made to the Educational Enrichment Fund.” states Bartosz. “We don’t field requests from families directly. They must come to us through a referral from one of our community partners such as school counselors, coaches, and non profit service organizations. It is also important to know assistance is never given in the form of cash. PCC will work with the referring person or agency for the purchase of the needed product or service for the child.”
“Partnership Carson City’s commitment to those donating to the Educational Enrichment Fund for our children is that every penny donated goes to kids, without any money going to administrative or other costs. This fund is open to helping the children seen by all of our Carson City service and program providers. If you have a passion for supporting certain activities for children such as cultural experiences, science classes or sports, just send a note with your donation and we will honor your request. We will happily report back to donors to let them know where their money went if they would like.”
How does someone donate? Sending a check to Partnership Carson City, 1711 North Roop St., Carson City 89706 with a notation in the memo line saying “EEF”. Donors may also go to the website www.partnershipcarsoncity.org and use Paypal under online donations.
“There is no amount too small,” said Bartosz. “Just recently we received ten dollars from someone, and an hour later a teacher called wanting to know if we could help with the cost for children whose families did not have the $5 to go on the field trip to see the “Peanut Cracker” performance. That ten dollars allowed for two children to experience something they will remember for a long, long time.”
