Public Comments at Board of Supervisor Meeting (Opinion)
Just a few years ago the Board put into effect a method of how to select a City Manager. This procedure was discarded at a later Board meeting as the Mayor said: “I will ask Nancy if she wants the job”. There are numerous city employees and potential outside qualified candidates that were not given an opportunity to apply for this position.
What is even more bizarre, is that the Mayor did not ask Stacy Giomi if he wanted the job, as he had previously applied for this very position.
While on the subject of trash, let’s talk about Waste Management. This Board approved a contract that forces all homeowners to use their service, that is, unless the individual customer can prove that they meet very strict criteria, required by Waste Management to opt of this service. The Board needs to examine how citizens are put through such a major ordeal and change this procedure.
The Mayor or Mayor Pro-Tem retains the discretion in deciding whether or not an item can be pulled off the consent agenda by any Supervisor. This is completely absurd. This action infringes upon the rights of an elected official to represent their constituents by silencing their voice on an agenda item.
By the way, who would regulate the both of them if they wanted to pull an item?
The Board will today examine how to hire former employees for temporary assignments. If I have my facts correct Andy Burnham has been collecting his PERS along with a pay check from the city and probably Larry Werner will be back on the payroll if he isn’t already.
The amount of funds available in the budget for consultant services is extremely alarming. The city employs numerous very qualified personnel many make over $100K yearly and then the city outsources work that should be accomplished by these same employees. It is time to conduct an efficiency study to determine exactly what the tax payers are receiving for their investment in city personnel.
As a reminder to the public, Brad and Lori’s newspaper article on street repair was largely the scheme of - “it ain’t us, there just ain’t any money” . They have a responsibility to do what they are paid to do. And, that is to find solutions like they did when they together collaborated to have Colorado Street fixed a few years ago.
Mayor, I respectfully request that you find time to develop agenda items requiring some type of action from this Board regarding finding funding in the existing city budget for street repair.
In closing-
I look forward to the 2020 Mayoral race. I believe that we have several very qualified and proven candidates that will serve our community well.
