Obituary: David Frank Josten
David Frank Josten, 72, peacefully passed away December 5, 2023 at home in Reno, NV surrounded by loved ones. He and Patricia Anne (Kelley) Josten enjoyed 41 years of marriage before her passing in 2021.
As a child, Dave kept a book in each room so he didn't have to carry reading material with him, but he did carry a love of the written word and curiosity about the world through the rest of his life. he graduated from O'Gorman High School in 1969 before attending Augustana College and starting a lifelong career with the Bureau of Disability Adjudication.
His affinity for laughter and jokes was only matched by the care and love he gave to others. Dave was a fierce advocate for youth sports and theatre programs in Northern Nevada. his booming voice echoed across Edmonds Field while coaching his three boys in AYSO. He continued volunteering whenever possible, including several years as coach for the Special Olympics soccer team. One of his favorite ways to give back to the community was producing, directing, and acting in countless plays at The Brewery Arts Center.
Born in Sioux Falls, SD, Dave was the eldest child of Frank and Irene Josten. he is survived by siblings Steve, Carol (Russell) Husman, Mike (Joye), Jeff (Anita), Fr. Paul, Tom (DeeDee), and Amy (Richard) Barnett; sons Kelley, Nick, and Jon; daughters-in-law Lilly and Becky; and grandchildren Mary, Millie, Nancy, and Emerson.
