Rock art and coyote stories featured Saturday in kids program at Nevada State Museum
“Family Fun Saturdays” returns to the Nevada State Museum in Carson City with “Fun with Rock Art and Coyote Stories” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7. Guests will be challenged to look at images of Nevada rock art and ask how it fits into understanding American Indian culture and archaeology, what it is, where it came from and how it can be protected.
Staff will share coyote stories and allow children to participate using animal puppets depicting coyotes, rabbits and other favorites. Families are invited to do a rubbing from replica rock art motifs, create designs using rock art stencils, and make their own rock art panel on sheets of newsprint.
Nevada Rock Art Foundation volunteers and staff will show an educational presentation and be available to answer questions. Advanced registration is not required. Families can stay as long as they like.
The event is free for museum members and children 17 and younger. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Adult tickets are $8 at the admissions desk and go on sale at 9 a.m. at 600 N. Carson St. For more information, call 687-4810 ext. 237 or email dstevenson@nevadaculture.org.
