Movie Review: 'J. Edgar' a solid biopic about the late creator of the FBI, starring Leonard DiCaprio

Director Clint Eastwood's film about J. Edgar Hoover, currently showing at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City, shows the real creator of the Federal Bureau of Investigation with all of the faults and strengths clearly shown. The movie, "J. Edgar," follows the man from his early days with the U.S. attorney general's office to his days as ruler of a giant bureaucracy of lawyers and police.

'Phantom of the Opera' in outstanding production in Carson City

Stephanie Arrigotti has been directing and producing shows for the Western Nevada Musical Theater Company at WAC for several years and every year she brings greater casts and more entertaining shows to the Community Center in Carson City. Friday night she opened "The Phantom of the Opera" to an enthusiastic audience with possibly the biggest first-night numbers in the theater group's history.

And the audience got what it came for — a beautifully staged and directed show with a cast of very talented actors.

Sing for Somalia, WFP Fill the Cup Fundaiser ~ Concert

Event Date:
November 12, 2011 - 7:00pm

I am so excited to invite you to this very special event I have been working on. This is a collaboration of both music and poetry coming together to raise awareness about the famine sticken areas of Somalia and Kenya. Young performers from Douglas County, Carson City and other local areas will be showcasing their talent in hope to raise money donations for the World Food Program, along with awareness. The event is a way to show the community that we can help and make a difference. I hope you can attend!

Book Review: 'Breaks, Brains and Balls' the story of Mustang Ranch's Joe Conforte

Joe Conforte is unquestionably one of the originals who made Nevada what it is, for better or worse. His book "Breaks, Brains and Balls," written with the help of local author David W. Toll, is a truly amazing report of how he turned a seedy brothel the Mustang Ranch just off I-80 east of Reno into a Midas machine, and in the process subverted Nevada law or made new Nevada law.

Movie Review: Harold and Kumar take on Christmas — and win

I missed the first two films in the "Harold and Kumar" series, but if they were as goofy and off-the-wall funny and nonsensical as "A Very Merry Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas," I've got some catching up to do.

The newest in the franchise is playing at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City and watching it is like seeing all the possible gags from Hollywood over the years with a lot of stuff only the drug-using 21st Century could think up.

'Tower Heist' is a nice caper movie with Ben Stiller and a good old Eddie Murphy

The comedy caper movie "Tower Heist" playing at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City has an all-star cast, a decent script and solid direction that keeps the bull wheels turning and the laughs coming. Ben Stiller as Josh Kovacs shares the lead with Eddie Murphy as a professional crook Slide.
