Victim Notification Service training
Submitted by admin on Thu, 01/26/2012 - 3:59pmThe Office of the Nevada Attorney General will host eight trainings starting on Tuesday, Jan. 31 running through Thursday, Feb. 9 throughout the state about the Nevada victim notification service.
The goal of the trainings is to teach first responders, victims of crime, victim advocates, prosecutors, law enforcement agencies, and community members about a service currently available in 13 of Nevada’s 17 counties called Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE).

Maddyson needs your help

Her Mom will also have to take time off work for travel, the surgery, and Maddyson's recovery time. They heed YOUR HELP!
TONIGHT - January 13, 2012, there will be a fundraiser at High Sierra Brewery in Carson City from 5 - 8 PM. A percentage of the sales will go toward their expenses and there will be raffles.

Casa of Carson City to begin volunteer training

Cell Phone and Inkjet Cartridge Recycling Fundraiser

Wonders Soccer will receive money for each item collected during the fundraiser. The items will be turned in to a company that specializes in recycling and refurbishing used technology.

Carson City children need CASA Volunteers!

Ordinary people with good communication skills, caring, patience and writing ability advocate for the best interests of the child while they are in state care.

Christmas Tree Recycling
Submitted by admin on Thu, 12/29/2011 - 7:29amCarson City is pleased to once again offer Christmas Tree Recycling in cooperation with Capital Sanitation/Waste Management Inc. As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular collection day or taken to one of the drop-off locations. Trees will be chipped in the sprintime and given to local residents to use for mulch in their yards. No flocked trees! This program continues to be a huge success. Carson City would like to thank everyone for their participation. Last year we were able to redirect 28.48 tons of wood waste from our Landfill.
Carson City Road Report for Dec. 26 to Jan. 1
Submitted by admin on Fri, 12/23/2011 - 1:36pmDue to a project to complete a new north-south water transmission line on the east side of Carson City, there will be shoulder work on S. Lompa Lane between Edmonds Drive and Grandville Drive. There will also be shoulder work on Edmonds Drive between Fairview Drive and Gentry Lane. Minimal delays are expected.
There will be work at North Carson Street, in the vicinity of the freeway overpass as a result of the Freeway Landscaping Project. No closures are expected.
Greenhouse Project ribbon cutting

Elks Lodge Christmas party for needy children

Nevada Street, Carson City. It is a free event for ages 0 – 12 years old. Parents are welcome to accompany them.

Ride the train with Santa at Nevada State Railroad Museum

Train rides are available for $6 per seat and will depart approximately every 25 minutes from 9:00am-4:00pm. Santa will be on board and visit all the children. Hot chocolate, food and refreshments will also be available provided by Warren Engine Company #1.
Js' Bistro to Host Fundraiser for the Dayton Food Pantry
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 12/08/2011 - 6:41pmJs’ Old Town Bistro will host a Spaghetti Feed on Tuesday, December 13th, from 5 – 8pm to benefit the Dayton Food Pantry. $10.00 buys a spaghetti dinner, with $5.00 going directly to the Food Pantry.
Last month nearly 3000 people sought help from The Pantry, including 127 new families, a significant increase over last year. That number is expected to rise even more as Christmas approaches.

Occupy Carson City to protest Saturday

The public is welcome to attend the protest appropriately being held on Human Rights Day, and Occupy Carson City has chosen this day to take a stand and protest for human rights above corporate rights. Submitted by admin on Wed, 11/30/2011 - 2:58pmAs part of its investigation into NV Energy’s Smart Meters program and its implementation, the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada has scheduled a workshop at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the PUCN’s Las Vegas office, 9075 West Diablo Drive, Suite 250, with videoconferencing to the Commission’s Carson City office, 1150 East William St.
NV Energy began installing Smart Meters in southern Nevada earlier this year. NV Energy is scheduled to start its second phase of installation in northern Nevada in December. The statewide installation project is scheduled to be completed by December 2012.

Volunteer needed for Shade Tree Council
Submitted by admin on Sat, 11/19/2011 - 11:11amThe Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Shade Tree Council. There are four (4) volunteer openings to fill a two (2) year term that expires January 2014.
The Shade Tree Council provides advice to the Board of Supervisors on matters concerning the development, maintenance, management and promotion of a safe, healthy and attractive urban forest in Carson City. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every other month at 5:30 pm in the Sierra Room at the Carson City Community Center.
