Jed Block will present a slideshow/talk on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at the Carson City Library. The title of the talk is "Now and Then: a Pictorial Analysis of Carson City Changes." Mr. Block has collected numerous pictures of Carson City's Carson Street and downtown area from earlier periods, such as the 1950s and 1960s, and compares them to recent photos of the same locations. These comparisons reveal a lot about the history of Carson City and the colorful people who shaped its future. The event is free and open to the public.

Supervisor Ward 2 candidate Brad Bonkowski will hold a Meet the Candidate Fundraiser on Saturday, May 12th from Noon to 4pm at Carson Lanes.

In conjunction with National Police Week, Thursday, May 3, 2012 the 15th Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ceremony will be held on the Capitol grounds in Carson City. The service will honor the 120 Nevada Peace Officers that have been killed in the line of duty. In 1998, the memorial was dedicated on the Capitol grounds to recognize the ultimate sacrifice these officers made in service of their communities.

But the assault on women does not stop there - it extends to the workplace, and is multi-dimensional with political, economic and legal aspects. It's not enough that women already don't have the same rights and privileges as men - the war on women would like to take away what rights and freedoms we currently have gained.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Carson City Planning Commission. This Commission oversees all matters pertaining to Carson City=s planning and zoning, land use and growth management. Meetings are the last Wednesday of every month at 5:00 p.m. at the Community Center, Sierra Room.

Applicants must be willing to serve approximately 12 to 16 hours a month. All members will serve without compensation. Applicants must be Carson City residents and registered voters to qualify.

On Sunday, June 3rd, 2012 at 8:00 AM, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team will be hosting our first annual fundraiser “Zombie Shoot.” The proceeds of the fundraiser will go to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team to assist in the purchasing of emergency and tactical equipment for the unit.

Beginning Tuesday, April 24, through Thursday, April 26, the outside
eastbound lane on Fairview Drive will be closed just east of Carson
Street for utility work from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each
day.

Beginning Tuesday, April 24, through Thursday, April 26, NDOT will be performing shoulder work on Snyder Avenue from Carson Street to Clear Creek Avenue, from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day. There will be lane closures with flagger controlled traffic.

The Carson High School Safe Grad Committee is hosting it's second annual Safe Grad 5K Walk-Run to raise funds for this year's and future Safe Grad Celebration for graduating seniors. It will take place this Saturday, April 14th starting just behind the Firkin and Fox. Mayor Robert Crowell is teaming up with Nevada’s First Lady Kathleen Sandoval, Immunize Nevada, and the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services’ Maternal Child Health Division for Mayors and Mommies Month starting April 1.

Mayors and Mommies Month is a statewide initiative encouraging Nevada’s mothers to sign up for Text4Baby, a free national health information text messaging service. The goal of Mayors and Mommies Month is to have 4,000 mothers signed up for Text4Baby by Mother’s Day, May 13.

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department invites the public to attend an informational meeting on the acquisition of property for a future neighborhood park along Imus Road in north Carson City.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 16, 5:30 - 7:30 P.M.m in the Bonanza Room at the Carson City Community Center.

The Nevada Department of Transportation is willing to relinquish at no cost to Carson City 12.21 acres of surplus property acquired for the construction of the Carson City Freeway for the development of a future neighborhood park along Imus Road.

The Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary will hold a Rummage Sale on Friday, April 13, from 8:00AM to 4:00PM and Saturday, April 14th from 8:00AM to 12:00PM. The Sale will be conducted at the Eagles Lodge, 1380 E. 5th Street (Between Roop St. and Saliman) in Carson City.

Nevada Health Centers, Inc. (NVHC), a non-profit organization, has built a 21,000-square-foot health facility dedicated to helping people in our local area receive access to health care.
