Carson City:

Carson City Music Festival ‘Jazz & Beyond’ is back for its 20th year with 24 free concerts in August

Carson City’s 20th annual Jazz & Beyond Music Festival, presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Association, offers 11 days of free entertainment and more than two dozen performances.

Two or more concerts will be held each day in multiple venues around the city, beginning with the festival opener on Friday, Aug. 11, from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Governor’s Mansion, on the corner of W. Robinson and Mountain Streets. It features the Andean music of Kantu Inka followed by the 17-piece big band, the Reno Jazz Orchestra, with special guest entertainer, David Hayes. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Seating is limited; attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

On June 2nd, 2023, Zoe Ward, one of our talented young actors from Wild Horse Children's Theater, received the devastating diagnosis of childhood brain cancer, specifically DIPG/DMG, shortly after her eleventh birthday.

Realtors, Carson Tahoe Health partner for cornhole tourney to benefit local cancer patients

Sierra Nevada Realtors will host its 7th annual Cornhole’s Best for Hopefest tournament Friday, August 11 in Carson City.

Sponsorships and team sign-ups are currently available, with proceeds from the event going to support local cancer patients through SNR’s partnership with Carson Tahoe Health.

Levitt Amp concert series returns to Carson City's Brewery Arts Center all summer long

The Levitt Amp Concert Series returns to Carson City beginning June 17 at the Brewery Arts Center under new leadership.

Executive Director Spike McGuire came into the position at the BAC in January, and immediately got to work searching out and selecting the bands and musical acts that will showcase this year’s Levitt AMP concert series. However, McGuire said, the community will find the same format and vibe that the community expects.

Western Nevada College to host 'Reach for the Stars Roaring ’20s' Gala for student support on Aug. 12

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the glitz and glamour of the Roaring 20s at the Reach for the Stars Gala, hosted by the Western Nevada College Foundation.

East Fork Station 8 hosts annual barbecue and concert fundraiser August 12

The annual East Fork Sheridan Volunteer Fire Station’s barbecue and concert is returning to Centerville Lane in Gardnerville on Saturday, August 12.

The Sheridan Station is a volunteer fire station, manned by a portion of more than 30 volunteer firefighters who are scattered throughout the East Fork district. The Sheridan station has been in operation by volunteers since the 1940s.

CCPROS are hosting several evenings of weed pulling at Lone Mountain Cemetery on Wednesday, Aug. 9, Aug. 23 and Aug. 30 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Aug. 12 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Horsecreek Ranch, CCPROS is also hosting a thistle dig at one of their conservation easement properties. This is a private property located of off HWY 50 W that offer views of Carson Valley and the sierras. Space is limited, email the Volunteer Coordinator to reserve your spot.

'Seed of the Movement:' Learn about Virginia City's part in Psychedelic Rock History at the BAC through Sept. 17

Head on down to the Brewery Art Center's Exhibition Hall now through Sept. 17 to visit the "Seed of the Movement" art history display.

All Things Watercolor

Ronnie Rector’s cheerful compositions tell a story and demonstrate her love of painting.

Rector’s show, "All Things Watercolor", will be in the Community Center’s Crowell Board Room, from July 10 through October 19, 2023. CCAI will host a reception for the artist on Tuesday, July 18, 5:00 – 6:30PM with an artist introduction at 5:30PM.

The Community Center is located at 851 E William Street, Carson City. The Crowell Board Room is open for all the city’s public meetings and upon request.

The Highland Maya of Guatemala

In his Nevada Neighbors talk, artist Michael Plyler gives viewers a close-up look into his decades of photographing the Highland people of Guatemala, making sixteen trips there between 1982 and 2018 that totaled almost two years in the country.

The Capital City Art Initiative’s online series of Nevada Neighbors public talks includes interviews with artists or curators. Viewers are invited to watch the presentation online.
