New-look Senators set to tee off season
There will be a new look to the Carson High boys golf team this spring. But even though five of the top six players from last year have graduated, coach Terry Gingell points to good numbers and some promising young players as reason to be optimistic heading into the new season.
The Senators open on Thursday with the Northern 4A preseason tournament, which is scheduled for a 10 a.m. shotgun start at Thunder Canyon Golf Course.
Carson finished third at the 2009 Northern 4A Regional Tournament and senior Jonathan Singer (now playing at Adelphi University) was the individual medalist in what amounted to a highly successful season for Carson. While Gingell is making no predictions for the coming season, he was quick to talk about a good turnout for the team.
"We kept 18, which is a large team," the coach said. "And some of the younger players are stepping up and doing a good job."
