The Capital City Arts Initiative is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Rotary Club of Carson City members will learn about the organization and its impact on our community at the next club meeting, Tuesday June 13. The public is invited to attend the noon luncheon which takes place in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.

The highlight of the Carson City Chamber Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 14 will be the presentation of special recognition awards to outstanding local businesses and people who promote growth and prosperity for the betterment of our community.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Flood Watch from Sunday 1 p.m. to Monday, 9 p.m. for Carson City, much of Western Nevada and the Lake Tahoe area.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of June 12-18, 2023. Closures are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

Just before 4:30 p.m. Saturday reports came in that the road near Koontz and Silver Sage and near the Post Office appear to be “caving in” presumably due to flooding.

Motorists must avoid this area for their own safety.

UPDATE 3:47 p.m.: Flood waters are covering the road in front of the high school along Saliman including the apartment complex and the entrance to Mills Park.

UPDATE 2:58 p.m.: Mudslides reported on Curry Street near Galaxy Theater. A report of three feet of water shooting out of the ground near the Skate Park in Mills Park is being investigated.

Other counties are being called to respond to numerous incidents of weather related emergencies.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisor’s meeting will take place Thursday, June 15 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Items up for discussion include the creation of a new city department for legal services, the purchase of a ballot reading machine, the winner of the "I Voted" sticker contest, and more.

Western Nevada College is delighted to announce that 396 students are on the Spring 2023 Dean’s List.

To earn the academic distinction of being recognized on WNC’s Dean’s List, students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called late Thursday afternoon to a single vehicle crash in the area of 5th and Roop Street. The vehicle hit power poles with lines reportedly down.

A 52-year-old man was arrested Monday for felony warrants alleging burglary of a business, grand larceny and gross misdemeanor destroying property less than $5,000, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
