Nevada Humanities has announced the book selections for its statewide 2020 Nevada Reads program. Nevada Reads is a statewide book club that invites Nevadans to read selected works of literature and then come together in their communities to share ideas and perceptions inspired by the books they have read.

After-hours burglary being investigated after man found dead from fall at Carson City shopping center

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says the incident, in which a man was found dead after apparently falling through the roof at a Carson City shopping center business, is being investigated as a possible after-hours burglary and that the deceased man had been dead for some time.

According to Sheriff Furlong, workers at a hair salon came into the business to open up for the day. When they arrived they found a deceased male on the ground, who appeared to have fallen through the ceiling.

The Salvation Army in Carson City will hold a job fair on this Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to noon. The Salvation Army will be hiring seasonal workers to help with their holiday programs such as Thanksgiving food drives, Christmas food drives and Angel Tree Christmas toy distribution.

The Nevada Commission for Women unveiled a limited edition license plate celebrating women’s suffrage as a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.

The plate itself is historic to Nevada, as it was the first assembly bill, Assembly Bill 499, to be backed by only women. Bills need a majority vote to pass any legislation, and this session was the first session any state in the country saw a legislature with a female-led majority.

Nevada jobs report shows growth in August, unemployment unchanged

CARSON CITY — Statewide employment figures in August show Nevada is up 5,400 jobs over the month and 42,100 over the year, with the state's unemployment rate at 4.1 percent, unchanged from June and down 0.4 percentage point when compared to last August, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s monthly report released Wednesday.
