Hello Carson City and happy day after Christmas. It has been a truly wonderful holiday season experience and it's not over yet. We celebrate our community for its many, many charitable functions and its generosity in the spirit of Christmas and giving. Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: Saludos Amigos. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Saludos Amigos", by artist Justin Favela at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The exhibition will be in the gallery from now through January 29, 2020. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The gallery is open Monday through Friday.

Nevada Day art exhibit at Nevada Artists Association gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. The annual Nevada Day Art Exhibit at the Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery will be held from through January 3, 2020. The NAA Gallery is located at the Brewery Art Center at 449 West King Street. The NAA gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.

Carson City Library hosts Family Storytime. Two sessions, 10:30 to 12:15 a.m. Each session is 45 minutes. Weekly themed singing, stories, finger-plays, or art centered around a book. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. 900 North Carson Street.

LEGO Club at Carson City Library. 4 to 6 p.m. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. 900 North Roop St., Carson City.

Carson Comedy Club Presents: Star of Casino Boss, Leslie Norris Townsend. Friday and Saturday. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. Show begins at 8. This weekend come check out Leslie Townsend, star of Casino Boss, at The Carson Comedy Club! Leslie has appeared on A&E's An Evening at the Improv and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno! Open Mic Friday Night at A to Zen. Open Mic Night is held at A to Zen Gift Shop on the Zen Den Stage. All talents, creative projects welcome. Come practice being on stage. There will be music, comedy, poetry, magic, and more. All ages and skill levels welcome. Open Mic Night happens every Friday from 6-9 pm. A to Zen is located at 1803 N Carson St., Carson City. Muscle Powered Hike, December 28 at Prison Hill. 9 a.m. join us for a 7-mile round trip hike beginning at Silver Saddle ranch house, following up Dead Truck Trail, over the saddle to traverse North Loop, and back down Dead Truck Trail to our cars. There will be many splendid views of the Eastern Sierra to the west of Eagle and Carson Valleys. Meet at the parking area next to the ranch house at Silver Saddle Ranch. There are several steep uphill and downhill sections, but the views are great! Poles are strongly recommended. Estimated time of activity is 6 hours. Required items include snacks, hat, and 3 quarts of water. Recommended items include poles, sunscreen, wear two pairs of socks (to reduce slipping between skin and sock), and clothing layers rather than one large heavy coat. Carson City observatory at WNC launches Dec. 28 ‘Astronomy Roundtable'. Jack C. Davis Observatory at Western Nevada College is ending 2019 with something new. Observatory Director Thomas Herring will moderate the first “Astronomy Roundtable” on Saturday, Dec 28 at 6:30 p.m. The roundtable will include a community discussion of news, the latest trends, equipment developments and the science behind astronomy. Much like the Saturday night Star Parties at the observatory, Thomas believes that Astronomy Roundtable will bring together people with a love for astronomy. "Bring your ideas and contribute to the discussion,” Herring said. “That's the reason ideas behind the format … to connect people who are interested in astronomy.” The observatory also hosts monthly free lectures from Mike Thomas and local scientists on Saturday nights. When lectures or special events aren’t scheduled, the observatory is open to the public from sundown to 11 p.m. At this time, the Western Nevada Astronomical Society hosts Star Parties. The observatory is located at 2699 Vanpatten Drive in Carson City.

Nevada Raider Nation, Carson City Chapter Game Watch this Sunday. Nevada Raider Nation, Carson City Chapter will host a game watch Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, as the Oakland Raiders take on the Denver Broncos at 1 p.m. Join us at Jimmy G's, 301 N. Carson St., for drink specials and pizza for members, and all-around fun times and friendship. Drawings will be held for Raiders items; tickets are 6 for $5. Membership is just $20 per person. Driver's Education offered through Western Nevada College Continuing Education. Dec. 30 to Jan. 2. WNC Continuing Education offers Driver's Education during winter break. The program offers 30 hours of new driver education. Meets requirements to obtain a Nevada driver's license. Uses lectures, interactive CD's, guest speakers and videos in a classroom setting to cover Nevada driving regulations, basic vehicle control, and challenging situations. Open to students ages 15 and above. PLEASE NOTE: Driver Education class fees are non-refundable.
