Woman jailed for DUI, child endangerment after leaving infant, 5-year-old home alone
A 36-year-old Carson City woman faces misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and child endangerment after allegedly leaving her children, an 8-month-old and 5-year-old, home alone while she went out drinking.
The woman was arrested at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of 5th and Fairview.
According to the arrest report, officers assigned to the Special Enforcement Team assisted on a traffic stop after it was observed that a vehicle traveling well above the speed limit on Fairview, crossed over the center line and went around 150 to 200 yards down the center of the roadway.
Officers stopped the vehicle and spoke with the woman, who had red watery eyes, heavy slurred speech, trouble with basic motor skills and admitted to having several glasses of wine prior to driving the vehicle, the arrest report states.
The woman performed standardized field sobriety tests but was stopped because of her inability to perform the tests, the report states.
The woman, who was uncooperative, did a partial blow on the preliminary breath test and the result was a .145 on the partial blow. She refused to perform the breath test properly by not giving an adequate sample or intentionally not doing what was instructed, the arrest report states. After two failed attempts of the breath tests, a search warrant was obtained for a blood draw, which was done and booked into evidence, the report states.
During the incident the woman was uncooperative, emotional and combative both verbally and physically, the arrest report states. During the investigation it was learned the woman left her two young children, ages 8 months and 5 years, at her residence alone.
Officers were sent to the home and it was confirmed the children were left unattended. Deputies had a locksmith let them inside the home to check on the welfare of the children. Their grandmother was called and came to the residence to care for them, the arrest report states. Bail: $3,637.
In other arrests:
— A 22-year-old Reno woman was arrested and booked Oct. 16, 11 a.m. for being in violation of probation conditions. Bail; $3,000.
— A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Oct. 16, 10:27 a.m. at the intersection of North Roop and Winnie Lane on a failure to appear traffic warrant. Bail: $375.
Those arrested and facing charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
