WNC tech programs, career possibilities in the spotlight at Thursday open house
What is in it for me? Western Nevada College will answer that question by presenting career options and pathways leading to a sustainable living wage at its Career and Technical Education Open House from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20.
Career and Technical Education includes a variety of courses and programs leading to skills certificates, industry credentials, and degrees designed to prepare participants to be career ready.
That is, upon completing, the individual possesses the skills and knowledge to begin a career above an entry-level position. Programs within the CTE area include Automotive, Business, Computer Information, Construction Management, Criminal Justice, Education, Deaf Studies, Graphic Communications, Machine Tool, Manufacturing and Welding.
Learn more about each of these CTE programs during scheduled presentations on Thursday:
4 to 4:15 p.m. and 5 to 5:15 p.m.: Machine Tool (Woody Wuster Machine Tool Tech Center), Manufacturing (Reynolds 107) and Education (Reynolds 113)

Did you know … WNC is an authorized Kuka Robot Training Facility? Provides robotic welding classes? Works with Nevada State College offering a 2 + 2 program for a bachelor’s degree in education without leaving Northern Nevada? Presents a new Associate of Business degree so students will enter as juniors in bachelor’s business programs? Has one of the largest machining labs in the region? WNC is the only operating Siemens Mechatronics Center in the western United States?
What are industry credentials? These credentials are certifications through exams that indicate a specific level of competency was achieved. Some may be familiar to you while others are new. Here is a sampling of credentials offered by WNC: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence), NIMS (National Institute of Metalworking Skills), AWS (American Welding Society), AIPB (American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers), CCNP (Cisco Certified Network System Professional), NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research). Attend the open house to learn more about WNC’s alphabet soup of credentials.
Visit during the open house to discover interests and opportunities to build your training and experience portfolio. Earn college credit, gain skills and knowledge, and acquire third-party industry credentials. Start at WNC and go anywhere.
